Public Information Films

I have seen public information films warning road users to double check to their right before making a right turn in case some prick has decided to overtake.

I have seen PIFs about the dangers of drink driving, shallow water, fire, strangers.

Why have I never seen a PIF with the intention of making road users aware of human operated 2 wheelers, their needs, their problems etc etc? Or for that matter aimed at us, RLJ, pavement cycling etc.

This must be one of the cheapest and easiest ways of reminding people of their responsibilities on the road to the mass audience. It seems to have largely worked for Drink Driving.

There have been PIF films about cycling safety.

I remember one about being seen. There was another with an old guy in an open top sports car driving too close to a girl on a bike. The message was give bikes room. Now that one could definitely do with a remake.

I'm sure these things are kept somewhere, wasn't there a poll last year and the old reginald molehusband reverse parker won?

Interesting site. I don't think that they're all there though - I couldn't find the one with the old major on his sit-up-and-beg, tweed jacket and deer stalker.

    I don't remember this - very catchy!

  • I remember a cartoon one about a guy who had been cycling for 50 years or something. He had a really slow cadence and when turning right I think he very slowly gave a right hand signal. The slogan was something like 'Learn to ride like a professional'. Anyone remember this?
