Mudguards

Guys

I'm really reluctant to go down the route of mudgurads but I'm also getting thoroughly fed up with commuting in this never-ending rain. I'm always looking to shave seconds off my commute so the thought of adding mudguards doesn't fill me with glee, setting aside them being one more thing to rattle or break.

Can anyone convince me that I should be investing?

If so, these get a pretty good write-up. Anyone know if they're any good or if there's an alternative that's not going to slow me down or p*ss me off?

how can mudguards slow you down...

i have full length mudguards on my scott road bike i would never take them off either

yeah they might look hiddious and unsightly and warent the pee pee being taken by colleges but when i arrive at work dry snug and warm i have the last laugh,..

my mudguards dont rattle ok add a little weight but i dont notice them at all i think mine are tortech but sks are good..

as for those race blades i looked at these they not that good you still get quite wet as they not full length and they tend to work loose on bumpy roads,.

if you can get full length guards on your bike then go for them,.

and dont listen to the shops either i was told by 3 shops one of which was evans cycles that fl guards would not fit my bike,. i had them on for 15 months without any issues.

For commuting they are needed - my commuter MTB has them and it keeps most of the spray and crap off me and the bike.

Black ones look the best, and buy some good quality ones - Zefal or SKS.

You could try race blades for a road bike - easy on and off, but as said, not full protection.

I don't have guards on either of my road bikes as they don't have the clearance. An old 'training bike' I had used to get guards for commuting each winter.
  • Halfords have their old own-brand Dirt Monkey stuff in the sale (pre BikeHut).

I got a sticky out Crud Catcher style rear guard for £5. It's meant for a MTB but it fits on my road bike just fine and it's quite slim and minimalist.
It wouldn't get you into a cycling club Sunday outing( ), but it will definitely keep the spray of your ar$e.
