8 speed cassette on 9 speed hub?

Is this possible? Will I need a spacer of some sort?

    No you don't need a spacer.
    8 and 9 speed cassettes use the same size freehub body.

    Obviously you'd need a new shifter though

    Just remember that 8 speed chains are wider than 9 speeds ones

    i'm wanting to get a new rear wheel off ebay foir the missus her bike is an 8 speed and the one im looking at has a 9 spd cassette on there now. will i need a new shifter then? im so confused thanx

    you could just remove the caseete and fit the one that is on her wheel now.

    If you wish to leave the cassette on the "new" wheel you will need new shifter and new chain. Minimum.
