    Oh just thought of something: lights. For those times when you get caught a long way from your destination on a main road, or simply want to pop into the nearest town for dinner.

    Spend £100+ on a hammock-tent, which will save you on weight for the tent + groundsheet and will also double as a seat. Don't shave on your trip, it's the law.
    I'm also one for being clean on tour, but I'd drop most of it for some wrights coal tar soap (also works as deoderant), sunscrean and some facial moisturiser. Also, bags of merino wool clothing (might be cheaper to buy in NZ, since most of it is made of NZ wool) - the general opinion is that one set of clothes will do you for your three weeks without ponging.
