:( This may sound dull but I was very attached to my Giant Terrago Disc which was stolen outside the hospital  at which I work in Cambridge. Great to have 14 miles to walk home after this rotten day!!!! Does anyone know of a good lock or two.

So help you God you nasty thieves. What goes round comes round so look out. [/img]

  • Seems a bit late now!?

Sorry to hear that, I had mine stolen from my locked garage a few weeks ago, and still waiting for the insurance replacement. (I'm in St. Ives, so not far from you either)

I had a Magnum D-lock, £35 from Halfords. Don't know how good it is, as they took the bike complete with lock, but it's Sold Secure Gold, and one of the cheapest I've seen with this award. (means that if theives cut through the lock and leave the lock, then the lock company will replace the bike for you.)

The 1st link is the lock I had, I'll be getting another the same, plus the second one.

Two locks much more effective than one, not just beasue its physically harder to chop two, it deters more thieves, and stops the opportunist nicking a wheel.

two different types, you can leave one at work... means they need different types of tools. Also get good insurance to cover it and then get the cheapest lock on their valid locks and keep the receipt somewhere safe.

In the world of locks. You get what you pay for! I had a bike nicked from the college just down the road from the hospital in Cambridge years back, cos I had a cheapo D-lock on it.

I now use 2 of these puppies for my bike. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.a ... 20D%20Lock It'll take a thief a long time to hack through one of these or get at the actual lock. They'll take one look at it and think better of it! Always buy a Gold Sold Secure lock!

I've got 2 locks of different types. The Kryptonite New York and Kryptonite Armoured Chain. Theory being it would take different tools to break each lock.

I've also got about 3 additional cheap locks that I've used to lock all the families bikes together in a big mass (indoors this time) when we go away on holiday.

However these are really only used for securing the bike in the (locked) garage. When out the bike is never out of my sight. Unfortuantely I can't cycle to commute to work as it's 100 miles!

  • This is interesting stuff as I posted the 'which lock' topic and its interesting to see that two locks are better than one, I was gonna go for the Abus granit x plau D lock and also a cable and lock for the front wheel and seat to put through the D lock too, i'm not intending to leave it unattended for any length of time, but the little toerags only need a few seconds hey !!!!
Am seriously considering buying a huge Rottweiler to chain to my bike with a note round its neck saying 'I'M HUNGRY...... GO ON HAVE A GO.......' might even be able to sell the proceeds to the local kebabary..... :P
Still loving my Carrera Vulcan but also loving my commuter converted Raleigh Record Sprint ooo it's so quick and a great commute hack yippeee get to ride it again in the morning . . . . . can't wait ha ha

  •  Have been rather naughty and bought a new bike. Miss the old one to much.
Do companies still insure even if the locks were taken with no evidence of remains?!?!?
I did have two locks on my bike and a wheel chain. It's BL***Y crazy!!
Hope they can't sleep at night with their guilt!!
