Old Campag Record or new Veloce brakes

HI guys I am refurbing my old Peugot road biek (531 tubing - was a replica of the team bike used by Phil Anderson when he road for Peugot in the early 80's) the paint job was tired and I spent about 200 pounds on a paint job (crazy I know).

The old wheels are shot ( FAG titanium hubs - Titanium axel snapped and cant find a part to suit) and they are now replaced with new FSA clinchers. The rest of the old Campag Record has been retired and the drive train replaced with 10 speed a mixture of Centaur and Veloce.

Now my question the old record brakes still look good after some 25 years better in fact than the new veloce skeleton brakes. However I wonder which would give better braking and control the old Record or the new Veloce? What would you use on the bike?

Cheers

In terms of performance I'd say Veloce but I would try the Record brakes with modern pads first. :D
I'd rather walk than use Shimano

The Veloce's will be considerably more powerful and offer better modulation - unless you can get modern brake pads for the Record calipers, you'll only scare yourself. I've a 1982 Gios running Modolo brakes of the period, when you apply the brakes you get a loud squeal and little else!
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Personally, I'd go for these. Better looking than the skeleton brakes (which surely must flex a bit?) and a fair bit cheaper too.

Yep I don't like the skeleton brakes at all....and the Record version looks even worse with the 'hidden pivot' sticking out like it's got a hernia.

2006 Veloce brakes for £18.40 from Geoffrey Butlers might be worth considering....I got some last Saturday.

  • I agree with the sentiments above - I've got 2007 Centaur on my bike, apart from the brake calipers which are 2006, only because they look so much better than the skeleton ones!
Has the head wind picked up or the tail wind dropped off???
