Hayes mechanical disc brakes

Has anyone had experience using Hayes GX 2 mechanical disc brakes before? I've been reading that they come as standard on the Giant Yukon and are custom set for the bike that are similar to the MX 2's. Anybody know if there any good?
I'm not looking for anything super fancy, just moving from V brakes to mechanical disc to see how they are before making the jump to hydraulic.
Oh and does anyone know if i would be able to put these on a rock shox tora fork as i think the mountings on the brakes are a different fit??
Thanks in advance, J

I love the sound my tyres make on dusty single track!

i have to ask this where would you be buying these?
also what is your buget?
are your wheels disc ready? and yes you would beable to fit any brake to the Tora."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

If you are buying them as an upgrade, wait and go straight to hydraulics. Much simpler and much more powerful with better modulation.0

I use MX2, no probs at all. Dont see the point as an upgrade, unless you are really stuck for cash and have STI levers (or prefer the lever feel)0

really no problems? im going through pads every couple of weeks its getting rather exspensive...06 Kona Blast with RS Tora solo airs0

Maybe a change of pad brand? These are more powerful than the Avid BB5 on my Idrive. Set up is crucial though, abd not always easy (as is cable maintenance)0

try the superstar ones - have a google, lots of good reports.
If the caliper isnt aligned properly, and the static pad not in the correct position, it can accelerate pad wear.0 -
