Alright mate,
I live in Salford not far from the Presinct. I'd be well up for meeting for a ride sometime. Only went for my first proper ride on Monday though on my new bike so a complete noob.
Don't know of any places for biking other than Delamere Forest which is only an hour away on the train. If you know any other places, let me know.0 -
me parents are comin up on wed to drop me bike off, just drop me a personal message and we can sort some stuff out!!! oh an dont worry bout beginners, i can go slower, ha.i ride a hardtail0

Yeah sorted mate, I'm off to Delamere Forest tommorrow for the day but might be looking to go again on Thursday if your up for it? Or somewhere else if you know anywhere?
I'll pm you later on mate, where in Salford you based anyway?0 -
erm wont have my bike till next week (its killing me!!!), delamere forest???cant say ive been there, what we looking at???
erm, as a dirty student i live in castle irwell student village, on cromwell road, opposite the texaco gagage, if you know it???
edit: if you want to go somewhere local, i know a few trails worth riding (nothing spectacular, but easy enough to get to)i ride a hardtail0 -
Alright,
Delamere Forest ain't too far away, just a 1 hour train from Piccadilly. It's just 2 stops before you get to Chester.
As for what to expect from the place... I only went for the first time on Monday you see and found 3 trails so far, one was 2 mile and the others 4 and 7 so some good amount of riding.
There's also a downhill section in the Forest but thats closer to Mouldsworth train station (next stop after Delamere).
Oh and yeah, somewhere local is fine mate, especially for the times I can't be bothered or don't have the time to travel etc etc.
Oh and I know Castle Irwell very very well!!!! Lived there last year you see as I'm also a dity student hahaha. I live about 10 minutes on me bike from the place as I live just round the corner from the presinct.0 -
haha, god bless the castle. erm, well if i message you when ive got me bike, and got it all working, then we can sort sumat???i ride a hardtail0
-
Yeah sound mate,
I'm always free on Sundays and one or two days in the week (Monday and Thursdays at the moment).
Just give a message when your ready.0 -
Boo!
I'm based in Castlefield, so I'm a stone's throw away from Salford. Just got my new bike last weekend, so gearing myself up at the minute. However, when I'm good and ready, I'll be well up or doing some trails - month or so.
I haven't done any in 15 years (and then it was on a old rigid thing, but the trails were fantastic), so you'll have to go easy on me for the first few!2008 GT Avalanche 1.0 Disc0 -

Sorted!!!!
Oh and DAWGUK,
I have a GT Avalanche 1.0 as well mate. Expect mine is the non-disc version.
I've only been out on it 2 times so far because I havn't had it long. I've also just got into it as well so my fitness and what not is pretty poor but it'll only get better.0 -

Well mate, seeing as I bought my bike on Saturday just, I've only been out on mine once (and that was on the way home from the bike shop). Regarding fitness, well I visit the gym 4 times a week, but I'm MILES out of touch, so you won't be alone on that one.2008 GT Avalanche 1.0 Disc0 -
salford doesnt have a cycling club of any kind (that i can find!!!) which is annoying.
oh and im pretty fit, so i guess ill be leaving you guys behindi ride a hardtail0 -
Salford did have a club, when I was in first year. (In my third year now, and on the Frisbee team) I was well gutted they stopped it last year just not enough members. I started the Frisbee club last year, so it is possible to start a club quite easily, if you want some help setting up let me know.
Oh and I wouldn’t mind coming along with you if it’s ok, just waiting for my new bike to arrive

i live in ancoats and ride a beautiful giant xtc composite..and a bombproof, "antique"gt zaskar le.
I have been riding from manchester along huddersfield canal towpath to marsden and beyond for quite a while now(find it's good as a training route).
if you have google earth or a map of the area, you can see that you can follow it either all the way to hudds(takin a bridleway over stanedge tunnel) or by takin a right at ashton under lyme, to whaley bridge(peak forest canal). it's a great way to get a lot of miles under your wheels whilst avoiding traffic and to see the scenery. from manc centre to the peak district./ can easily get a train back from either destinations, or from marple, marsden etc. you should check it out.
Always lookin for others to ride with too, but as a chef find it difficult to get weekends off. if anyone knows of any mountain bikin clubs though..i'd be interested.
Cheers y'all..safe, happy pedallin'0 -
Right, I work in the week as well quite a bit and go uni but I'm availible for most sundays and the occassional monday and thursday sometimes.
I wouldn't mind someone to go out riding with either to get my fitness back up to scratch!!!!!0 -
sunday???i ride a hardtail0
-
Can't do this Sunday mate unfortunately, got myself an eye test and in the afternoon which means I havn't got the time to go to the forest that day. If I'm done early enough though wouldn't mind those local trails you mentioned?
If not then what about Monday?0 -
err... if your done early enough on sun we can do my locals, only takes a few hours if were quick, but on monday im in till 5 (i.e. darkness). tues im off, and the rest of the days ive got full timetables (damn physics!!!) but yeah, let me know. i am presently quite drunk and have been doin some drops at castle irwell, and sliding in the snow, which is great fun in itself!!!i ride a hardtail0

man ive gotta stop checking my emails when im drunk...i ride a hardtail0

Hi I live in manchester, went Delamere on saturday morning its good place you have to find trails yourself as the signposted routes are just fire track but good for fitness if you hit them hard.
I'm going to go to Llandegla (North Wales near Wrexham) great red and black route there.
I'll be there for about 12 if anyone wants a ride out........I can't offer lifts have a small car and only fits two people and two bikes sorry.0 -
Hey lads (and lasses) we have a VERY active group in the manchester area. We are helped out by the bike shop in Bury (Leisure lakes). We have rides nearly evry week throughout the year. Most are XC type rides but we occasionally visit a DH / dirt jumping site.
Please feel free to join our group and sign up!

I too am a student at Salford, I live just outside Stockport.I am spending most of my time riding in Mellor building up fitness to get back in to racing later this year,Midland XC series . Mellor is a great little place with bridleways that criss cross all over the place. Also a stone throw from Edale but i have not ventured that far yet... not something i'd want to do by myself.
I'm more than willing to meet up for sessions where ever... From Uni: a train in to Marple would give you access to loads of stuff. Mellor, Middlewood Way(flat but filthy atm), Macc Forest, Lyme Park, Peak Dist and numerous more.'to give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift' Steve Prefontaine
