What tapers do Campagnolo use? I have a '99 Record c/set which is ISO and takes the 102mm BB. I also have a 93 Record c/set which needs an 111mm axle. I'm told a different standard applies (JIS??) I have a Stronglight BB (SSB[?]) (2004) which - as far as I can tell - matches a Shimano BB (JIS, of course). So who used what when? Other than ebay, where best to get a new 111mm BB for the '93 c/set? (Is Phil wood still in business?).

Thanks for any advice.

    For Campagnolo you need ISO taper. The majority of Stronglight chainsets are re-branded Sugino products and therefore have the JIS taper. You should be able to find plenty of people still selling Campagnolo BB's in 111mm - they start from about a tenner. Try Mercian Cycles or Italian Cycle Products for starters.

    Monty,

    As usual you give excellent advice. Thanks. I understand that the current crop of 111mm BB from Campag can be used -once worn out- to anchor small craft. I was rather hoping to keep the weight down to Below 200g. I suppose Royce is the way to go, but they are at the opposite end of the cost spectrum (i.e. ridiculously [that word used deliberately] expensive).

    Found the following info on the Stonglight SBB model;

    http://www.xxcycle.com/sbb-titanium,,en.html

    103 and 115 mm spindles are ISO taper; the former length is effectively a substitute for Campag Record/Chorus square-taper untis. All other axle lengths are JIS.
    That said, I have in the past, and still do, run lower-end Campag double chainsets such as Mirage on Stronglight 110mm JIS units without any bother.
    Campag 111mm square taper BB sets are still available to use with the triple groupsets; the Comp version is equivalent to Centaur quality;

    (The 115.5mm version is, I believe, asymmetric and for use with oversized seat tubes which affect the position of the front mech cage)

    Hope all of the above is of use to you.
