Getting plastic thing off new SPD pedals - HELP

Hi,

How do you get the plastic platform off Shimano 505 pedals - short of hacksawing through the thing I can't see how to do it?

The pedals came on a 2006 Spec; I've been using older pedals so I haven't been using these at all. It's a large, flat plastic platform / frame on one side of the pedal and a real pain in the neck - too slippy even if you did want to use it as a dual-sided pedal.

Thanks

If it's what I think it is. Just twist them (horizontally), in the same way that you release your feet from the SPDs. They can be tight so use a teatowel to get more grip. They do unclip... just a little tight at first.

Oh and fit the pedal first, as it helps.

Loosen the spring tension first with an allen key then as said above its just a case of givin 'em a twist and they'll pop out.

I could well be wrong (and can't check because I threw the plastic plates away on my SPDs), but the plastic plate might cover the tension screws.

  • Thanks everybody, job done. Sorry for the delay in reply

My mistake was trying to get the thing off with the pedal off the bike. A lot of force required.

I just loosened the tension bolts right off and it was fine I think...
