Dont know if this has been posted elsewhere on the site, not really a commuting story, but a cyclist killed by a van :( could happen to a commuter as well.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scot ... 189168.stm

No real details on What happened.

He collided with a van while riding his bicycle at 1334 GMT on Tuesday.

Makes it sound like the van was parked up he he went into it....I hate the way they report these things. I know they can make assumptions on what happened but they always make it sound like its the cyclist fault for being there in the 1st place.

    Terrible shame :(
  • The van is "said to be a council vehicle that overtook him and then turned into his path". That's according to the report on the Braveheart Cycling Fund website. That's the fund that had just announced funding for him to train towards the 2010 Commonwealth Games
My bike's an Orbea Elgeta from Epic Cycles

Absolutely terrible  And if the repot above is true (Van hit him) the way the BBC reported it is bloody crap too; "A Scottish cycling champion has died after a collision with a van while training on the A82 in Fort William. "

Should have read "A Scottish cycling champion has died after a van driver collided with him while training on the A82 in Fort William. "

Typical though as the usual way cyclists are portrayed :x

I think "a collision with a van" is sensibly neutral in the absence of any other evidence.

I believe news reports cant normally contain too much that might sway opinion before a possible trial.

Lets hope a few motorists as well as cyclists read this news and take more care to avoid each other.

My thoughts are with his family.
    It's all good.

yeah I know they have to report it this way but it still saddens me as we all know what its like out there. We do our best to avoid the muppets, but if something happens its hardly ever our fault and we always come off worst.

I really feel for the family.
