campag centaur - places to buy online...

Hi there - I have decided I want the 2008 carbon centaur compact groupset on my new build. specifically I want the 170mm carbon compact (50 - 34) chainset, front mech with a 35mm band on adaptor, 13-26 cassette with medium mech (to accept future lower gearing) and obviously the levers and brakes too.

so - where am I going to get it from!

Merlin had a package which wasn't the ideal as above but at £399 was a bargain and reddraggon got one for his build. I then decided that it was such a good price that I would get it and get a new cassette if I needed it - but typically they have run out of the 170mm cranks - doh!

Parkers - i need to call them and see what options they have - they do it at £459 but again no good if they can't change a few bits. (has anyone used parkers? - what are they like?)

PBK has it on a pick and mix basis with 15% off - but the price still isn't great and their website is awful with things missing and it seems to be a bit of a mixed bag of 2007 and 2008 parts.

so where else is there to try?

any ideas? - or if not online, any stockists in the northwest?
(exclude ribble as they haven't received their 2008 campag delivery yet!)

Are you deadset on the 170mm? 2.5mm difference is nothing really, I'm not sure it's noticable.

But as you're paying quite a bit, the carbon chainset is not an easy or cheap thing to change. I've gone for the 172.5mm cranks and I'm a shortarse - but that's what I'm already used to.

Incidentally when I got my groupset from Merlin, there an extra 5% off, so it all for £380 (free delivery) - Thanks to you, Gkerr4, I was planning on getting the stuff from Parker for £80 more!

reddraggon - wow there was an extr 5% off too!!

I actually called in to the store as I was in the area but they claim they sold the last 170mm that afternoon. - glad to have helped you out though and that you got sorted at that price. thats what forums are for isn't it!

I was just looking for 170 as that is what I have on both other bikes - i'm not sure that I would notice an extra 2.5mm - would i?

Would hate to get it and then have knee bother or something - how likely is that?

I was also considering buying parts from various suppliers and then actually considering the fulcrum torq chainset which loks awesome - but I think it is just the centaur chainset with fancy stickers and a bit higher pricetag - anyway the mix-n-match approach was going to cost a fortune.

ademort - I'll certainly look into that website - thanks for the link

anyone used them? are they any good? quick delivery?

I've never heard of them until recently and am a bit wary with a high value purchase like this

The latter is because only a couple of parts (front mech and chainset) have changed for 2008. From what I can see the prices look good for mix and match too.

I guess you are right actually - only the front mech and chainset as you say changed for 08

hmm - have you used PBK - are they quick to despatch? - although saying that, I notice they do a 24hr delivery for £8

Yes - spent a fair amount with them. No issues with dispatch speed (though I wasn't in a rush).

    anyone used Jedi-sports?

I know they sell through ebay but also their own website - it's all in english and the prices (in euro) are excellent - interestingly they have the option to take the centaur groupset with a fulcrum racing torq carbon crankset for the same price as all centaur (i know i know - it's just campag with a different badge - but have you seen it??!)

still though - it;s a big order value and I don't want to do it blind - anyone got any experience?

Can't vouch in any way for them but if I used them in similar circumstances to your own, I'd be preferably wanting to pay using a credit card and not through Paypal.

Can you not wait for Merlin for to get in the cranks in 170mm?

I don't think you'll be able to get much cheaper.

Phoned Jedi-Sports this week to arrange a visit to their showroom as I am looking to buy a new bike and travel to Dusseldorf each month on business. It didn't sound like it is a shop but more of a distributor. All I can say at the moment is they were extremely helpful, spoke perfect English and even offered to open the showroom out of hours if needs be. I have seen the name mentioned on other threads and so there must be someone on here with experience.

Edit: The guy on this German forum thought it was problem free - http://www.rennrad-news.de/forum/showthread.php?t=26324

I could do - but it still isn't the package I am after - and after a few calls yesterday it would appear that there is very little stock of the 08 centaur around.

I dunno - if I wait then chances are ribble will get it in too and i'd get to pick my bits from there.

on the plus side - my wheels arrived this morning - they are well sweet! (see separate thread!)

Seems good value, I considered getting a set of Fulcrum wheels off them, still might get some Fulcrum Zeros eventually.

On the topic of Merlin - I guess I was lucky that they had exactly what I wanted (expect band on mech).
