Hi there Cycling enthusiasts!

I have a 58cm Bianchi Road Bike and have today bought an Easton EC90 SLX Carbon Road Fork.

My predicament is that the steerer has been cut to 175mm long therefore, I am unsure whether this is going to be long enough. Im just under 6ft 2in and should be grateful for some people's opinions.

Many thanks

Depends on how low you like your bars and how long the headtube+headset+stem is.

If the steerer is long enough to fit your stem on without any spacers that will have to do. If it's too short to fit a stem on you're buggered.

    175mm sounds really short!

Far too many variations here to be any help. For instance what is the head tube length of your frame, stack height of the head set, the angle of your stem and what height you want the bars to finish up at. Sorry to sound unhelpfull but we would need much more information and would still be guessing. Providing the steerer is long enough to actually fit a stem, preferably with a few spacers, you should be able to set the position up OK. You may need to 'flip' the stem over or even get one with a greater rise on it. Only you can tell if this is then comfortable.

On my 56cm frame my headtube+headset+stem (no spacers) is about 21cm (just measured it), on a 58cm frame I'd imagine the headtube to be even longer.

You sure it's been cut to 175mm - that sounds really short - even for a really small frame.

Redddragon beat me to it again. Damm.
  • It was listed on ebay as the steerer being 175mm long and then in brackets it said ''i.e plenty long''.

I did think to myself that it sounded a little short and took the risk that it would still fit. It arrives tomorrow so watch this space!

Just for interest can you post a link of the listing?

Edit to add something else extra:
I've just bought a 54cm Nero Corsa, and just the headtube on that is 173mm.

Just looking at the picture the steerer looks really short. I'm guessing he's cut it far too short, and thought he'd sell it on ebay and see if anyone would go for it.

All I can say is unlucky. You never know it might fit, but I really doubt it.

See if you can get him to give you your money back.

that does seem short - i guess if it came from a very racy geometry bike - which might have had a 130 - 140mm headtube with an integtrated or zero-stack headset - then it would even have some room for a couple of spacers - it is short though - certainly not "plenty enough"

what model is the Bianchi frame you have? - we might be able to find the geometry online somewhere - or if you actually have the frame - measure the headset and take a picture of it so we can see what sort of headset it needs and try and estimate if it will fit or not!
  • I'm having a look on the following website http://www.ifbikes.com/pdfs/traditional-sizing.pdf which advises that frames 58cm in height have a headtube size of 158mm - Think it may be a bit of a squeeze!

My frame is the Via Nirone Alu Carbon, 2006 frame.

You've either got a 165mm or 180mm headtube. The Via Nirones aren't real "racing" more what they call "sportive" bikes and so tend to have longer headtubes. Either way your steerer will be too short unfortunately.
