which XT Derailleur?

Hi, broke my rear derailleur last saturday on my '99 specialized rockhopper FS and looking to get an XT one to replace the current LX one.

The only thing is that i dont know if i need the gs short cage or the sgs long cage. Does anyone one know which one i need?

Probably the long cage but it depends what cassette and chain-rings you're running.

I have a triple ring front setup and i use a medium cage mech with no adverse affects, it changes super quick compared to a long cage and is less susceptible to accidental damage.

Aslong as u dont use the extreme crossover gears u will be fine with a medium cage, it all depends on what u really want.
