Sort of decided after Xmas to try and regain just a low level of fitness (after a year of little 2 wheeling without an engine).
Can it be just coincidence that it doesn't seem to have stopped rainong and/or howling since? I think not.
Damn miserable out there this a.m. Saw very few other pedallers: only the poor or the worryingly enthusiastic....

I once read somewhere that, in London, if you ride to work every day, you can expect to get soaked about 12 times a year. If that's true, it's funny how half of the year's quota seems to come on consecutive days.

Still better than the underground, though 8)

I remember reading a similar stat. With you on the tube point as well! Roll on the summer months (assuming this summer will be drier than last).

Yep, no armed police likely to shoot you or some rag-head nutter blowing you up!

BUT this a.m. it was DRY! Yippee! Although The Trent appears to be very close to a water-where-it-shouldn't-be level.

Choose your poison - instead, we have WVM and - my favourite - Royal Mail vans. Still, I prefer to risk life and limb in the open air!

DJ- wasn't this morning great?! The ride in was a most cheerful start to the day.

I read something similar for Manchester, which is supposed to be one of the UK's wettest cities. From 1983 to 1986 I lived 2 km from university and walked there and back about 900 times (roughly 27 weeks a year for 3 years, twice every weekday, but just once on Wednesdays). I only got soaked 4 or 5 times in total. There were quite a few drizzly walks, but those were not wet enough to worry about.

I must be one of those 'worryingly enthusiastic' people. If the weathers bad try playing 'At least it isn't'.

If its windy say - At least it isn't raining.
If it's wet and windy say - At least it isn't Dark.
If it's wet, windy and dark say - At least it isn't snowing.
If it's snowing, windy and dark stay in bed!

Sad I know but it works for me. :)
    It's all good.

Attitude does go a long way. With the right attitude a ride on a truely miserable day becomes an exhilirating challenge and a great story to tell the mates. Sometimes though it can get you down, but never for too long.

that's what I mean. It can be doing all of those things at once, and all I have to do to be happy is say to myself "at least I'm not on the District Line"!

I got proper waterproof trousers for Christmas and this has been a real eye-opener.

Get the right kit and even a blizzard won't stop you.

BUT I do! January 2006 was my highest ever monthly mileage (over 700). Just that did v little last year in general, so building up slowly! But I'm already ahead of my (admittedly very modest) Jan target, despite it being a bit damp!
