SRAM Gear shifters

The shifters that my Pitch came with are SRAM X5, I don;t know wether it's just me but they don't seem as precise in action and don't click like the Shimano Deore on my GT Hardtail.
Is this a common thing with SRAM shifters or is it just the lower end ones, would say a pair of X9's have a more precise feel?
Or am I going to end up swapping the rear mech and shifters for say a Shimano XT set up :?:

the X5 are the same as last years X7 and they are more positive than most shimano.
i would say it will be something to do with your set up. how old? are the cables clean?..."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

They came on the bike in November when I bought it.
The rest of the set up is Deore LX front Mech, and a SRAM X7 Rear Mech, as I said it might just be me.
It's on the shift with the bigger lever the one that does the down shift on the rear and up shift on the front (me thinks) it just seems to move quite along way. The smaller upper lever is bang on the money.
Is this normal regarding the lower lever.
The cable are perfectly clean as is the drive train as I've cleaned, de-greased and re-lubed that, also the bike has just been for it's first service @ Evans'. This hasn;t caused my thoughts as it sprang to mind before I had this done.0 -
I have X7's on my 2007 Spesh Enduro, with an X9 rear deraileur and an LX at the front. The shift is spot on, and easy to feel when hammering it off road.
There's a really good supertest on shifters in Feb's edition of MBUK.
You could always upgrade to SRAM Attacks or X7's. There's normally some good deals on ebay. I picked up a set of brand new Attacks for my old Kona Stinky (which had XT & LX deraileurs) for £20.
Don't forget that cables do stretch over time, so it's always a good idea to renew them every now and then. Cheaper than new shifters too!2007 Merlin Malt 40 -
Cheers Endro, I'll have a look on fleabay0

Feel is rather subjective: but in general SRAM feel positive in feel and sound, Shimano run smooth and seem to slide into gear quiter. The more you pay, the less lever throw there seems to be.0

The SRAM Attack/Rocket shifters are not compatible with your SRAM rear mech."Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0 -
I've seen some 2007 X9's for sale are they much different to the '08 shifters, Do they still have the cam assisted shift?0
