Breaking the speed limit ?

Maybe this belongs on the road biking parts of the forum, but any way
I just wondered if it would be possible to get a flash from a speed camera on a bike
i dont drive so i dont no much about speed cameras, they may only flash at something like 40mph
But if you were going down a hill and it was a 30mph limit ...?
If it is possible, it seems like something nice to atempt.
Please tell me what you think.

good bit of downhill witth a camera near me, in a 30 zone.....one day,,, :P0 -
I break the speed limit everyday on the bike (on the way to work). There is a 30mph limit which used to be a 60mph zone at the bottom of a big hill, there's no chance they're taking my momentum away for the next hill. There is one of those things that tells you what speed you're going, sadly it doesn't detect bikes though.0

The only way to be clocked by "The Man" for speeding on a push bike is by a police officer aiming a speed gun at you, but bear in mind that if they clock you speeding you are subject to be charged with...it may have changed now but I know it was "riding a push bike furiously with endangerment to other road users" or such like.Brought to you by:

Wow, I never would have though you could get pulled over by the cops on a 'push bike'.0

They can, technically, pull you for not having reflectors (and lights when its dark).Brought to you by:

I think they can also do it for not having a bell (lol), because there was some new law where all new bikes had to be fittted with bells.0

My hardrock didnt come with a bell which i was glad about as it ruins the mountain biker look. I heard that it isn't illegal to break the speedlimit on a bike, but it is illegal to ride recklesly.
But going to fast counts as being reckless! Jokes...

you can get flashed by them ones that tell you what speed you are going, my little brother did it whilst i recorded it on his phone.if you're not crashing, you're not trying.0

I got shouted at by a cop for speeding! I was flying down a (the only) hill in York, weaving through kamikaze tourists who just dont look, when the cop jumoed infront of me and ordered me to slow! I just cycled round him and carried on!0
-
good for you , they always try to spoil our fun, they try to give asbo's to me for wheelying, £30 for riding on the path. (neither were "awarded" to me)if you're not crashing, you're not trying.0
-
I've been done for riding on the pavement too - just pretended to be dumb, apologized and they let me off!0
-
that's the way to do it!if you're not crashing, you're not trying.0

A mate of mine got pulled over on his bike by 5 coppers in an unmarked car for cycling on the pavement. £30 quid fine that should have been on the spot but he got parents involved. now i know which direction to go in next time i see a copper
You'd think theyd have something better to do...0 -
Pavement is illegal: but, feck me, lets use our intelligence here. It is safer for all for a cyclist to use the pavement as opposed to some congested and dangerous road when the road obviously dangerous. Yes, it is up to the cyclist to judge, and give way. But overall, I am sure its safer in certain places.0

I was going along a pavement by the side of a 60mph very narrow road, and I saw these pedesrians coming. The pavement was narrow so I stopped and got off to let them past. It was some middle aged guy with long hair and a beard on a walk with his mother, and he had a great big rant at me for being on the pavements. To go on the road would have just been stupidly dangerous. I just listened to him shout for several minutes, told him where he could stick it and sprayed him as I rode off through a puddle."Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0

Don't have to go fast to be reckless, especially when there's a chav in your path...
On my way home from work about 2 years ago I set off a speed camera, but then again I was giving it some and was in the middle of the road. I guess they've changed something on them all now as haven't managed to do it again.
Did get flashed while next to a speeding car though, had a really dodgy face on and afterwards it took a while to see where I was heading.. Which was mostly towards a wall.0 -
to get to my local jumps i have to go on the road ( suprisingly). its a 5 min ride down 1 real road and a bucnch of private roads. one time i was riding there on my faith to test my new brakes befor i did a race. anyway on the way i police car pulled infront of me suddenly (thank god the new brakes worked!!!). they got out and stopped me.
i got done for:
riding on the path
using a unworthy vechile on the road
no reflectors
reckless riding
threating a police officer with a weapon.
just a few probs:
there was no path on the road
unworthy veichiles dont count bikes
it wasnt dark so i didnt need reflectors
the reason i was reckless was they pulled infront of me
and i didnt threaten a officer i feel of my bike and the wheel hit him in the groin.
is it me or are the cops getting worse????
i was let free. suprising rely. but lets remember the moral of the story:
