Going to pop along on Thursday hopefully to look at their stock.

Any good/bad experiences with them? Web site seems helpful!

...don't know about the Woking branch, the Evans at Spitalfields is well stocked. Evans gets a lot of stick on this forum but I have never had any real problems with the shop or online...
...all the way...'til the wheels fall off and burn...
  • I had a pedal failure first morning back after new year, near evans in Wandworth. So I pulled in

Two South African chaps helped, should have got there names but didn't (well done). Took the old ones out put the new ones in all done in 5 minutes. Me happy - they provided a good service didnt try to sell me further stuff. I wandered round had a loving moment with new bianchi roady....I am smitten but underfunded.

    I like evans so there

I know 2 people who had bad experiences with Evans woking.

One was when she bought 2 bikes, and there was a whole mess up with when the bikes were going to be ready, ie they were't ready when they said they would be, and they had to come back another day, but even then they still hadn't got them ready in time, so had to wait around - these were a Marin and a Spesh hybrid so around £800 of bikes.

My brother bought a Mongoose Tyax from them, took it back for the service (booked it in beforehand) but the shop had no record of it when he arrived. Was told to come back in an hour, came back, and the bike was where they had left it untouched.
Had to leave it a further 2 hours, and then it was done, but not the best customer service or organisation.

As lovely and leafy as Woking is, not sure I would want a bonus 2 hours there.....

As an aside, I bought a spesh mtb for my gf from the Blackfriars branch, and they were prompt and helpful, and had no issues with them.

Was very underwhelmed with customer service and they ordered the wrong bike in for me! You might find it bit better on a weekday though, I had to go at weekend due to work commitments. Oh and I never bothered with the free service due to the hassle of booking it in but not being guaranteed it'd be ready at any particular time. Good luck!

    EDIT :!:

Just discovered at the weekend, that after over a years use, the forks on my gf's Specialized, had been fitted.........

    BACK TO FRONT!

I thought, and so did everyone else, that they were reverse arch forks.

So the wheelbase was approx 2" shorter that it should have been, which will explain why it was a little skittish

This is a bike that hed been built for the shopfloor, and was then taken away for a pre sales check, or whatever they call it.

    None of them spotted it.

I take everything back I said previously about my own experience

I went there a couple of times and was NOT impressed by their customer service. First time, FOUR people  were chatting merrily about nothing, me looking at them wondering when they will notice me. They didn't and I had to interrupt them (dunno why there were 4 people on that day in the shop). Another time they had no clue about their stock and seemed very disinterested.

There is a shop in Knaphill (3 miles)away) that I have repeatedly heard excellent opinions about. It seems to be a family shop run by enthusiasts, if so, it's a real gem (I haven't used it, but 2 of my housemates did and they were full of praise. Maybe worth checking out?
  • Don't know about Woking, but I went in to test ride a couple of bikes at an Evans. They sent me away and told me to come back 'later on' (they wouldn't actually commit to a time that day) by which time they should have given the bikes a pre-ride saftey check.

Was a bit of a pain and nowhere else did this, but I figured fair enough to make sure the bikes were safe.... until I was test riding their Felt through heavy traffic that is - standing up to accelarate away from the lights when... the right hand pedal came off, almost plummeting me in front of a bus in the process...

Shocking in more ways than one.

Never used the Woking Branch but had bad experiences at 2 London ones. Personally I'd look elsewhere...

Switchback Cycles? Evans sent me there as they don't stock Giant, and I wasn't really taken with anything they had on display.

Going to arrange a test ride on an SCR this week with Switchback who did seem very helpful.
