new roof mounted carrier
dirty ransom
Posts: 10
I have been looking for a new roof mounted carrier for quite a while,I have tried the thule 591 but it would not fit my bike.
After doing a bit of searching i found the thule 594 sidearm, but its not available in the uk,I contacted thule in bristol but they could'nt help as it is not out over here..
So after watching some demonstration videos on the net of how it works i decided to import 1.
I used www.backcountry.com and it was here in three days, brilliant service.it cost $145 which works out at about 80 quid, then theres shipping and import tax,50 quid delivery and 35 quid tax.total cost 165 pounds.
Its a unversal fitting kit,so it fits on the uk thule bars no problem.it also works with the thule lock kits.
I tried it out on my bike today and its great, easy to load up and very secure, theres no contact with the bike frame at all,it rachets down the front wheel not touching the forks so no rubbing or scratching.
am pleased with it and i hope this helps other people who were thinking of getting 1..
i took some photos and i will try to get them on here..

Looks bonkers, think I'll stick with the Pro-rider. What kind of bike didn't fit by the way?"Internet Forums - an amazing world where outright falsehoods become cyber-facts with a few witty key taps and a carefully placed emoticon."0

Might be an older Spesh Big Hit - I went down exactly the same route for my son and his mate's 2004 models - Thule in the UK couldn't supply as it was approved for use in the US but not in the UK. Got a quote for 3 in total from bicyclebuys.com but when you factored in tax it was getting expensive - ended up buying a trailer instead (which I still haven't converted!).0

my bike is a scott ransom 20,i tuck it to halfords and got the bike on there demo carriers and because of the position of the rear shock the 591 clamp would'nt fit.
