nylon-fronted jerseys
I used to have a couple of nylon-fronted jerseys, by Nalini I think. They were knitted acrylic but with a layer of windproof and water-repellant nylon at the front across the chest where you'd usually stuff newspapers underneath on a cold day, and on the fronts of the arms. One of them met a natural demise i.e. eventually became a load of holes separated by loose thread, the other got appropriated by the girlfriend, who now guards it with nine rottweilers and a 20ft moat.
I can't find a similar thing to buy. On those days when it's around zero, or dips below, if I wear just a normal top I get a blast of cold air on the chest whereas the rest of me is fine, or I put on a windproof layer and my shoulders, back and arms are soaked in sweat within half an hour.
Any recommendations on a jersey that's got more protection at the front than at the back?

I bought a set of thermal underwear (similar to HH) from Mike Dyason. They are Norwegian in origin and have a pertex front on the vest and Longs. Good stuff.0

The Endura Windtex jacket http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=9279 is like that with a windproof front, but normal fabric elsewhere, along with zippable side vents which help a lot when you get a bit warm. II was so impressed with mine that I bought a second one - has been my winter staple for longer than I can remember.0

I know the jackets you mean, we called them "fast man's donkey jackets". I never found them very good because the nylon was not wind or waterproof enough.
I have a jacket by Briko which has Gore windstopper front and sleeves but with an unprotected back, just like the old stuff. I have had a quick look on the Briko website and cannot see it , well it is 7 years old, but a modern equivalent might be -

Take a look through the website, it just happens the one I've linked has Briko printed all over it, others are plain. Dynamo pro or Dynamo L seems to have relaced windstopper.0 -

That's a nice looking jacket, i quite fancy one of them. Is there much reflective stuff on it/brighter colours on the back? It annoys me that all the decent kit is generally black, not very sensible for winter riding.
Hypocrisy is only a bad thing in other people.0 -
Hey thanks - that's excellent. As soon as the budget makes it, that's what I'll get.
Not so bothered about it being partly black - the gold lamé bikini top I wear on the outside usually shows up nicely anyway.0 -
My £5 Aldi gilet is windproof at the front and mesh at the back. A bargain and useful !0

Having checked mine, the back of the WIndtex jacket is either red or blue (and fairly bright), with reflective strips at the top of the pockets, and white bits on the back of the shoulders. Almost no black on the back.0

Sounds good. I'll still pop over to the Aldi store, though I suspect that will be as well as, not instead of, getting the Windtex thing. Thanks for the replies.0
