Pike 454 not getting full travel

Hi,

I'm having a problem getting the full travel on my pikes. I have wound the u-turn adjuster all the way, but the lowers only move to the 125mm mark and not the 140mm. I can pull the lowers and it will go to 140mm, but once compressed only returns to 125mm. What could be causing this?

Any help appreciated.

  • I set them up with the recommended pressures in the manual. Although, this was some time ago, and I've not checked recently. To be honest the problem existed out of the box, I always meant to get them sorted, but due to family comitments I stopped riding for a while. I started getting out again in oct and since then the problem has been getiin worse. IE i used to get 135mm, now i get 125mm.

add more positive presure and see what happens. or reduce the neg air...

  • Make sure you dont have more pressure in the negative air chamber than the positive air chamber.
  • ok thanks - I'll give that a try.

You do need to have SLIGHTLY more pressure in the negative chamber than the positive otherwise they top out horribly when they're wound up to 140mm.

As an example I run 150lbs in the positive chamber and 155 to 160lbs in the negative. This is just enough to pull them into the stroke slightly and prevent top-out.

You have too much negative air pressure which pulls the travel down, i have the same problem with mine.

It's a bugger to set up, I want mine to be plusher and when I get it feeling right I can't get the full 140mm travel cos the neg air is pulling the travel down to as you say around 124mm, to compensate this I've put some more in the positive chamber which has just made them a lot stiffer but i get the full 140mm travel.
