Hi i have got a xt hub which is in perfect condition and was thinking of lacing it up with a new rim i race 4x and i have maxxis minion tyers on my current rims so i was going to put some slicker ones on the new rim but i dont know which rims are good for 4x i was looking for lightish ones that can take abuse so i can acelerate realy fast out of the gate. but which one? my budget is £30 because i will have to buy a new tyer and disk so i can alternate between my wheels depending on the weather or rideing spot. thanks

    Mavic EX721.

If your smooth and light you could get away with an XM719.

I suppose XM321s and EN521s have to get a mention as they fall between 721s and 719s in both weight and strength

  • i run 721s already but the suns look good are they light. Another thing is what slick tyers are good should i opt for maxxis holy rollers or dmr motos. thanks for the advice

MTX 4X rims are 640g so heavier than your 721s (590g). The singletracks in camo are the same weight as your 721s http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=20494

EN521s http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=23206 look like they might fit the bill at 540g they are the same width as 721s but 50g lighter and are for enduro and light freeride. You could opt for 36 spoke to give them the best chance.

As for tyres, have you thought about Lopes tyres http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=5841. He seems to know a bit about 4X and a 60a on the back and a 42a on the front should give you a good combination of low rolling resistance with plenty of grip. Haven't used them personally.

As for tyres, High roller up front and a Lopes bling on the rear. 42a is softest so more grip. Go for the single ply's as they are a lot lighter than dual ply's.
