Anyone ridden the 08 rocky ridge and how would it compare with my old specialized epic comp 04 model in terms of trail hooliganism and ride quality, I dont mind letting it all hang out on the epic but there are limits...

I ride an 07 Rocky Ridge and from what i can tell they're pretty similar. It rides really well, but is a bit of a drag up hills due to the 30lbs weight and 2.35 tyre on the front. The Fox Vanilla's really smooth, and it feels like quite a 'tank' to ride because of the 28" bars and short-ish stem. I think there's an XT shadow rear mech on it for 2008, rather than the X9 on mine, MBUK reviewed it this month, so you should probbaly read that. I've never ridden an Epic so can't really say how the two compare.0

Haven't ridden the off-the-peg model but I've got a 2008 Rocky Ridge frame that I've done a custom build with and weighs around 27lbs. Can't comment on the forks (I've put Revs on mine) but the frame is awesome. Lighter than the 2007 with no loss of strength. Only done 3 rides on it so far (got it last wkend), but yesterday did quite a long ride over 4 1/2 hours on everything from tight rooty singletrack to slippery climbs and it excelled. It has a surprisingly supple rear, not the level of spring of steel but def forgiving. Don't know if the Fox forks are adjustable but the bike felt alive wound down to 115/120mm for the tight 'n' twisty stuff then unleashed for descents.
In summary, the frame alone can take a beating but still do an excellent job as a XC hack. Also the lifetime warranty means if you ever stack so badly you knacker it, Marin will send you another to abuse. It looks rather tasty as well in my opinion. Here's a pic from yesterday:

Thanks for the info dudes.
Very sweet looking ride, love the charge saddle, I've ordered a black one, should be arriving this month some time from england. Nice to see parts of the world not covered in ice and snow , Singletrack these days is the ride into town on the 30cm wide tyre tracks on ice covered ashfelt, leave those and down you go!
What frame size are you running by the way??
Cheers
