I'm thinking of getting an Orange P7 One, I already ride a fixie on road and am getting increasingly frustrated with my gears etc on my mountain bike in all the grimy weather.

Has anyone used one? What are they like to ride?

How do they cope with hills - I bike round the peaks, would it cope?

any other songlespeed MTBs worth a look?

I had a few problems back when I had an old stx on my back end. Upgrade to an XT or XTR rear mech and the same advice with cassetees. Other than that, just a good old wash down and a 5 minute check after every ride. Job done.

Check the reviews section on the orange website, there's a review of the Pro and it wins the test as the ultimate dependable adventure bike, I've owned them over the years and you won't be disappointed. It's not racing fast up climbs these days because it suits a longer travel fork but it's hardly a slouch, the zingy steel spring in the frame will suit those long 'in the saddle' climbs. They have always been great all-day bikes...

The Orange customisation system is brilliant and you should be able to have it in any colour you want and you can mess with the spec. I'd personally push for the 'Pro' decals too...

With the P7 One, I'd change the fork, nowt wrong with the Tora for the money but it's a sorted bike that begs for a better, lighter fork. I'd at least move up to a Recon or Revelation, Fox would be nice if you can stretch but a Rock Shox fork will be ideal for your desire to have a maintenance free bike!

Alternatives are aplenty for what you're after, On-One have nice offerings although everyone seems to be on-one (lol) these days...
  • Got a P7 One in November and I have no copmlaints at all with it. I did however upgrade the forks to the Fox Vanilla's.

Hills are what Single Speeding is all about up and down, however if you have a lot of flat forget about it.

The only thing I would complain about would be the seat post clamp which just seems not too work. I am loking at a Hope one now.
