Judder from front of bike

Hi

I bought a Specialized Hardrock Sport Hydr Disc 6 months ago. This came with rubbish RST forks which had 100mm travel.

I recently changed the forks to Marzocchi MX comps with 120mm travel. These were fitted by Dales and because of the different fittings I had to get a new rotor which is much larger than the last.

I have noticed that when i pull on the front brake there is a really bad judder coming from the front end. The brakes work well. I have tightended the headset and everything else I can think of.

Any help to find the problem and rectify it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Dave

Hold the front break on and gently rock the bike back and forward whilst holding the headset, if there is any play in it u will feel it.

To fix it u simply undo the bolts holding the stem onto the steerer and tighten the allen bolt in the stem top cap very gently until u can feel no play when rocking the bike then retighten the stem bolts and ur done.
  • Thanks very much for your info/

I have checked the headset and there is definitely play. I tried to just tighten the top bolt which didnt do anything but I hadnt loosened the stem bolts first. I will give this a shot.

    Many thanks

Seems theres a jinx goin round with headsets cos i had to adjust my headset earlier on this eve and as i was loosenin one of the bolts on my stem it sheared off so now its only held in place by 1 instead of 2 'til 2moro DOH!!!!!! :!:
  • Thanks for all your help

I was tightening the headset without loosening the stem bolts. Ive now done it the correct way and it has worked a treat.

I seem to have this with my brand spanking hopper, however mine also feels like something is loose when i go over a bump, is it just the headset or could something be loose in the fork lowers/stanchions?

it could well be, have a feel, hand over a joint and apply the brake and move the bike. feel any play?
