I have full sus Scott reflex 25 I have had as many new chains as ride out lately.
Original chain snapped after a year or so, i put down to age so fitted new sram chain and matching rear sprocket (nine speed as was original, not sure which model of chain or sprocket they set me back about £60 if thats any indication). This chain snapped on first outing, not at the gold quick release link. I put chain back together again and seemed ok for while and snapped again within say 50 miles. I put another new chain on it (same make) and new rear mech (XT) chain snapped again within first 5 miles on up hill climb, the chain isn't jumping it just snaps?
Any ideas is it front chain ring, the teeth look ok? Could it be i just need a better chain?
I shorten the new chain to same length as the original and put it together with quick release link, it never brakes at quick release link.
Thanks guys. What you think?

Really need to know what model of chain it is. A few have reported the PC990 hollowpin snapping.0

I might be able to dig box out of the bin and find model.0

Should be stamped into the chain too!0

Its PC 971, i guess thats lower level than PC990?0

chain correct length? not too short?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I have a pC971, one snap to my name. But I have used SRAM for years, that s the only one. I think you are just unlucky! Dont change gear while standing on the cranks, chains dont like that!0

Mate of mine had a similar prob on his Intense which we traced eventually (after two new rear mechs and a number of chains!) to a bent tooth on the middle ring which we think was snagging and damaging the chain. Since he sorted that have had no issues (touch wood!)0
