YPK cronomaster - HELP!!
Does anyone own a YPK cronomaster cycle computer?
I have just thrown my bicycle out of the window in frustration having fitted the second of these from wiggle. The first was faulty out of the box so it went back and was replaced and now the second appears to have exactly the same fault.
I am an experienced cyclist and have fitted many cycle computers so I know about alignment, interference etc. I have ruled all these things out.
The problem that occurs is that when the wheel is in motion, the cronomaster stops recording speed/distance above a certain speed. It just drops back to 0mph. This only happens when the wheel is turning. If I waggle the magnet back and forth in front of the transmitter I can record speeds up as fast as I can waggle it. However, as soon as the wheel is turning, the fault occurs. You can still hear the transmitter bleeping so it is definitely transmitting. I am absolutely baffled. This occurs no matter where you position the receiver in relation to the transmitter including in the correct position.
Has anyone heard of this type of fault? Is there something that I am doing that is so dopey I'm not spotting it?
Please someone tell me that there is some kind of rotating wheel electromagnetic field which only cronomasters are sensitive to and only above certain speeds.
HELP ME before I go mad!!!!!!!

I've got one and haven't had that problem, although I've not really used mine so far, as I had to send it back to Wiggle due to having no back light. The second one they sent me doesn't either, am I being stupid? It says you've just got to hold down one button for 4 seconds for it come on, or the other button for 2 seconds.
I had a look on the YPK website and found that they do another model without a backlight, and suspect that they've mispackaged it in the boxes for the ones with a light?0 -
Mine does have a backlight, but you need to be in the dark to see it: very faint.
When very cold, the speed digits seem to dissappear, And the manual says you can swap heartrate and speed over by zeroing distance, then another 5sec on the left hand button. I haven't managed to make this work yet, any suggestions?
Apart from that, for the price, you can't complain. Its cheaper than new batteries.0 -
I cant change between HRM and Speed either.
How are you getting on with yours so far?
The back light on the second one still doesn't work, but I've not got round to sending it back yet.
Also the HRM seems to read very low, and always reads when I've not even got the chest strap on! I've got a Polar watch style HRM as well, so I'll try them out, together, but there is no way my heart rate stays that low!
I moistened the chest strap before putting it on with a bit of spit, is that right?
I'm thinking about getting my money back on it now, and getting something better.
Any recommendations for something reliable, lots of features inc HRM, back light and possibly with cadence?0 -
I've just bought a YPK CronoPulse from Wiggle also. Mine is also faulty. The backlight 'works' if your definition of working is just about being able to see a blue glimmer from the screen in pitch darkness. No chance of reading the data using it though.
The big fault though and the reason I'm returning it, is that the heart rate signal is picked up by the speedometer circuit. Meaning that you clock up miles even when stationary! Once moving the speed reading jumps all over the place.
I read you comment Milese about having signals from the HRM transmitter when not wearing it. Mine carries on and does a few beats when it's removed, then stops. I think this could be by design though, so if it loses contact with your chest momentarily the count is still accurate. I got very accurate results from the HRM. Shame it interferes with the speedo. Did you moisten the right parts of the belt? It's not the middle part that needs the saliva, it's the two serrated area on each side of the central 'lump'.0
