Yeah I am after that christmas (well not really.. 8 stone) But I have made myself unfit via lack of exersize and booze. I "tried" going out to do some riding today, got 4 miles around my route and got a flat.... bugger it.
  • Yep, I'm about 14 stone, up by 3 1/2-3 3/4 over my "athletic peak" (If you can call 22-08, 1-1-03 & 2-14-28 athletic) Probably rode the bike 6 times last year, ran more often - but running's so bloody slow!

Managed to put on a coiuple of pounds because of very little cycling in 2007 generally - and (for me) quite a lot of eating over Xmas.
Still not reached my life-long ambition of 10 stone however.
Assuming that it will be raining (or as today icy), I shall pedal in the a.m. (rather than twist the throttle!) having set a modest target of 150 miles for January as I attempt to get even vaguely fit again.

  • yup me too - I'll be out for a 4 hour ride regardless of weather. Had my weekly rest day today after a 2 weeks stretch on the bike so need to get out there and ride today off. Down to 11 and a little below so about 5lbs left to shift!

Have a bout 3,500 miles to go before the end of may Bring it on!

I said I would go out today, whatever the weather. It would have been my first ride of the year. Woke up to blue skies and my heart leapt with joy. Looked outside at at least half an inch of frost: I swear the crystals were still growing on top of each other.

Went for a long walk instead. The road to my house was sheet ice and the puddles solid.

You can't ride in that; however determined you feel. :(

i plan to be out and about at 7.30 Sunday morning

Have not rode properly for ages so will not get far before my legs go jelly like.

I would like to get to Marble Arch and back, approx. 15 mile round trip.
  • Yep, gonna go out tomorrow come what may. Forecast looks a bit mixed - could get away with it or might get a good soaking. Still, like many others, have got to shake off the dull sloth ... and ride !
    Two wheels good,four wheels bad
  • 26mph winds, lots of rain, no thanks.

Might go to the gym instead.

 8 stone!!! I equaled exactly 2 of you just after christmas.
Now 15.2 thanks to 300miles on the bike and a few outing slogging the pavements.

    lol.

I was 9 stone, in the summer so I lost 1 somewhere.

Thing is that layer of fat hasn't disappeared from my belly so that tells me that unfortunately... It must have been my muscles :(

just back from a very windy and wet 4hrs/61miles/1750cals in the saddle - well actually most of it was out of the saddle, teeth bared screaming into the wind but the principle is the same! Strange through, my HR was still way way lower than it should be and I cant work out why especially since yesterday was a rest day? Usually after a rest my HR is over 130bmp but today it was120 and below despite the big effort because of the wind.

Hopefully that should bring me down a couple of lbs for the week. fingers crossed.

Well, I only managed 6.5 miles before my legs were gone.

It just felt too dangerous to carry on.

Well, it has been over 8 years since I rode properly and I am very unfit.
Hope to increase to 10 miles next time.

Almost got taken out by a coach load of East European's taking luggage out of the coach, bloody idiots walked right out in front of me and i was next to the centre line

i wasnt drinking last night and i was in bed early, I just cant understand it
  • I looked at the wind blowing the trees around and thought....Sod it.

Managed 43 miles yesterday on my Spring Classic style route and got muddy and soaked. Still came in with an 18.39 average.

Settled for an hour and a half on the turbo watching the Giro this morning. Was aiming for a 100 mile weekend again. I can feel a midweek day off coming on.

Does anyone else find if you are really p1ssed off eg big head winds, the percieved effort doesn't reflect in the recorded HR? I know some times the effort I (Seem) to put in doesn't show up in the computer

  • Just been out for the first time since September coz of a bad back.
Not sure how far i went or how fast because i somehow managed to set my computer to Kmh & German as i was setting off.
Unfortunately the back problem still persists but not as bad as before (been having Physio for the last 6 weeks).
I think i did around 10 miles & about 40 mins which is enough for now until my back gets stronger.

It was rather windy today. Surprisingly I didn't get rained on, despite the forecast. I did enjoy riding through a bit of road that was a foot and a half deep in water, while a number of cars were too scared to go through :-)

Stats: 116km/4hrs14min/1700m climbing in the Mendips, but way slower up the hills than I am when fit and it's warm. That's to be expected at this time of year.

I also figured a way to keep my feet warm - two pairs of booties!

I only did 10 miles, very wet and windy, kept getting blown wide so decided to call it a day :(:(
Not that fond of hospital food and didn't feel like getting wiped out
  • yup was up at 4.45 and out on the bike at 5.10 Back at a little after 9 and on tinternet whilst waiting for the girl to get out of the shower.

Always do my rides early doors cos otherwise you spend your whole day recovering. And I like to get back in time to have breakfast with the GF.

Gats - 4 hours @ 15mph into headwind? That should have blown away 2 to 2400 kals? OK its hilly round here but I reckon on 6-700 kals per hour for a hard ride - or am I deluding myself.
  • I toughed it out for 30 miles in 1hr40. Not to fast but the first 18 miles were cross/head and it was super gusty.

Am going to relax and have dinner before a little walk to free my legs up a bit.
  • 1700 is what the polar said and who am I to argue. told you my HR was wy low. Usually for a 6hr/100mile ride I only burn around 2200-2800 depending on how hard I go.

I'm not sure if thats a good thing or not? For me low cal burning is bad but on the other side a low hr is good? ro have I got it all wrong?
