Laquer attack

I have just removed my Cateye wireless wheel sensor from my carbon forks and it appears that the laquer on the fork has been attacked leaving a very rough surface underneath where the rubber backed sensor was positioned. Is it possible for rubber to have this effect? I believe that some rubbers can exude certain substances that can be corrosive. Has anyone had similar happen? Happily, a good T cutting has got rid of the worst of it and I will remount it with tape underneath.

More to do with water and grit getting behind the mounting pad and abrading the surface as it vibrates minutely as you ride along.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • Perhaps that is it. Did seem pretty damn tight but I agree that it is a possibility on the basis that it never happens in less vulnerable areas where rubber is used to protect the frame.
I did make sure the surfaces were spotless before I mounted the sensor.
