Leaking Pike?

I just received my Rockshox Pike 454 Air U-turn from ChainReactionCyles and it would appear that there is oil around the rebound adjuster. I wiped it dry and left it overnight and checked it this morning and the bottom of the fork leg with the rebound adjuster has more oil on it and oil seems to have run up the fork as it was laying flat.

I first thought it was maybe just excess oil but now I'm thinking it's leaking. Any other explanation for this or should I get on the phone to CRC on monday?

Thanks.

The damper is sealed in the top of the right leg, the oil you are seeing is just from the oil bath lubrication. I often see a trace of oil on my RS forks here: check the bolt is none up tight. It should not be excessive however.

Thanks, which bolt should be done up tight?

I pulled out the rebound adjust tool and it had oil on it, it seems that oil could be coming out of the rebound adjuster itself.

The bolt on the lower part of the right leg has a hole in it for the the rebound adjuster, it is posiible some residual oil is leaking from there (or its coming out around the ouside of the bolt from the oil bath). I'd torque up the bolt, refit the rebound adjuster, and keep an eye on it. If it arries on, it maybe the damper leaking down the inside of the dummyshaft and out the rebound adjuster hole. many people report this, and it dies down quickly.

    Thanks!

Ok, i'll go tighten the bolt, so theres a pretty good chance there's nothing drastically wrong with fork?

I dont think so, it does seem quite common! Ive had a number of RS forks with this adjuster, would say at least half have shown some oil there.

    Great :D

I've tightened the bolt and wiped the fork dry so I'll see what its like later on, if its still weeping oil tomorrow night I'll call CRC on monday.

    Thanks for the help :)

This is the first fork I've had with real adjustments on it so got a bit in a bit of a panic last night when I thought it was leaking straight out the box.

I owe you one bud :P

Of course, I could be spectauclarly wrong, and it will blow up on the first ride out ;-). Only joking, in my experience you will be fine! Great fork BTW, take a little care setting it up and you'll get the feel you want.

    Haha, thanks.

Always wanted a Pike, it's going to be part of my new custom build :D

So far it's dry so I'll let you know how it is later on.
