Hi-
I am looking at getting into a bit of track racing and have an old Cervelo P3-sl (frame and forks) lying about in the shed and was wondering if i could use this instead of splashing out on a new frame. The frame has horizontal dropouts so is just a case of installing a track bottom bracket and chainset coupled with a fixed sprocket conversion kit for the 130mm spaced rear wheel and bobs your uncle, or am i overlooking something major. Its intended use wil be on an outdoor shallow banked concrete track if that helps and if i inrease the chainring size and add a front brake would the bike then be suitable for fixed gear tt-ing.

I think this should work ok. The only issues to consider are:
    1) The dropouts are probably shorter than genuine track ends, so will not give the same amount of adjustment, but this shouldn't be a major problem.
    2) The rear hub (as you mention) will need to be made 130mm.
    3) If using a track hub, giving a track standard chainline, you may need a track chainset.

You can't use a single speed converter for a road hub - it'll still have a freewheel and therefore won't be 'fixed' - best to use a rear track wheel / hub that you can fit a 130mm axle. The likes of Goldtec and Phil Woods do track hubs for 130mm width. If you plan on riding track races, it has to be a fixed wheel. I've quite successfully used a Campagnolo Record road cranks and BB with a Miche track chainring for fixed TT. Alternatively, find a BB with an adjustable chainline.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
