Speed/Cadence bike sensor (GSC 10)

Hi people
3 bikes that I use with my Edge 305. I would like to get the cadence sensor to show me it results when I have used different bikes for different types of ride.
It seems very hard to get it to work properly.
I believe I have I have set the pedal sensor and the wheel magnet close enough as when setting up the sensor the red and green lights would flash for a about 60 secs.
Does anyone know any tricks etc to help it work?
