Saw a very nice instructables tutorial where someone placed computer cathode tubes across the bottom of their bike.

Now this seems (and looks) very cool, but it did strike me... Cars with neons lit up is illegal on the UK roads (correct me if i'm wrong), does this mean bikes with active floor lighting would also be illegal?

Looks like a really good mod, but I dont want to do it if it means getting my bike or the lights conviscated!

bump...? Anyone shed some light on this?
  • My first thought was "What on earth is a 'computer cathode tube'?"

My second thought was "Why would anyone want to make their bike look like a chavved Corsa?"

I would guess it probably is illegal (non-standard lighting), but given the number of twunts riding around with no lights at all and not getting pulled I can't see the plod bothering to do anything about it. Worst case, you'd probably just get told to take them off.

If the style police get hold of you however, you'll be in major trouble.

I guess it would look a little chavvy lol.

Speaking of chavs, I think i'd probably be lucky if they were still sitting on my bike by the time I returned to it after work..

I'd go for it if I was riding a lot at night. Taste goes out of the window when you realise how little attention some drivers pay to the roads nowadays.

I reckon the police would probably just be glad that someone is lit up well (dont forget the proper lights too) - and at least you'll stand out.

They wont confiscate your bike - look how many chavved up corsas there are out there !

I have some tyreflys on my valves at night - they're pretty visible too.

Nah, cool doesn't enter into the equation - I was riding around in December with battery powered christmas tree lights wrapped round my top tube and reindeer antlers on my helmet. It's more that it's already been done, and not by people I'd personally wish to emulate!

I had reindeer antlers on my helmet 15 years ago or so - do keep up ! ;-)
  • Ah, but clearly you must be someone I wish to emulate!

You can see the light source on the bike neons.
