Hi,
My bike has got Bontrager Racelite Rims and Bontrager Tubless Ready tyres but I am runing tubes and thinking of going tubeless but is it alot of hassle :?
To run mine tubeless all I would need is a pair of tubeless valves and some Bontrager Super Juice ?
If I got a punture while out can I just put a standard tube back in or does the tyre/rim need a proper cleaning out first ?
Whats the difference's in using something like Stans over the above ? Stans use's an inner tube ?
Can Stans be used on pretty much any rim and tyre but tubeless you must use a tubeless ready tyre and rim ?
Sorry bit confused on all this tubeless stuff
Simon.

Right, try to simplify.
Stans used to mean a rim kit which was used to make standard rims airtight so they could be used without tubes. He now makes rims, tyres and sealant as well.
Standard tyres are not airtight and do not have tubeless beads tubeless ready tyres are not airtight but have a tubeless bead, and UST tyres are airtight and have a tubeless bead. What this means is that a tubeless ready tyre should be easy to fit but needs sealant to make it airtight.
You need the valve for your rim and assuming it is held into place with a nut (like a tube valve is) then repairing a puncture is just the same. Remember though that with the sealant in place you probably won't notice most punctures.
So if you get a big puncture, you take the tyre off (as now), you remove the valve (as now only there's no tube attached to the tubeless one), you check the tyre for thorns or anything else that would puncture your new tube (as now), you fit your new tube (as now) and reinflate (as now).
Once home you can either leave as is and run the tube, or take the tyre off and put a patch on the inside of the tyre and reinstall tubeless."Internet Forums - an amazing world where outright falsehoods become cyber-facts with a few witty key taps and a carefully placed emoticon."0 -
Are there specific tubeless tyre patches or can you use a standard inner tube patch to fix this?
Thanks for all your answers on this tubeless stuff btw Splasher, this part of biking is still new to me but learning fast!!0 -
There are specific tubeless repair kits which I have but haven't needed to try. They work in a way that doesn't require you to take the tyre off. You get a tool (a bit like something you'd find in your mams sewing kit) and some rubber strips and some rubber solution.
The idea is that you find the hole, load the tool with a strip, cover it in solution and stick it in the hole. When you pull the tool out, the strip forms a plug with the ends sticking out. You let the solution go off and then trim it back and in that way you never need to reseat the tyre. As I say, I haven't tried it.
However, I have repaired one by putting a tube in to get me home (split the tyre on rocks in the Peak) and then removing the tyre at home (had to to get the tube out) and just patching the inside with a standard puncture kit."Internet Forums - an amazing world where outright falsehoods become cyber-facts with a few witty key taps and a carefully placed emoticon."0 -
Thanks Splasher,
I was looking at Stan's one's and I thought it was an inner tube in the packet but it's the rim strip  so you only need this if your rims are not tubeless ready :?:

Yep, you use it to make the rims airtight. It's all explained here http://www.notubes.com/movieinstall.php"Internet Forums - an amazing world where outright falsehoods become cyber-facts with a few witty key taps and a carefully placed emoticon."0

Thanks,
I was looking at some new wheels,
is the Mavic XM819 Tubeless ready but also you can just use a normal innertube ?
but something like the XM719 would need something like No tubes to make it Tubleless ready ?

Exactly so, you're becoming an expert."Internet Forums - an amazing world where outright falsehoods become cyber-facts with a few witty key taps and a carefully placed emoticon."0
