Hope LED or Cateye Triple Shot?

Looking to buy a Hope LED light for around £150 or the Cateye Triple Shot for £100 which would you recommend for offroad singletrack and frequent road issue. The internet user reviews of the Cateye are particularly scathing but mbr said it was good and that was for £200 last summer. Thanks for any help...

Cant recommend the hopes enough.
More than bright enough techy off roading.
I only use mine on full power when it gets really rough, low/med is fine for normal technical trailsScott Scale Custom

Is the Hope light that we're discussing here also known as the "Vision" and retails around £200 normally? Has twin lenses, looks a bit like an owl.
If so, I'm really interested in people's reports on it also - as I'm considering buying that model in partricular due to being able to get a good discount.0 -
get it. now.
I got it from merlins at £160 i think enduro pack with 2 batteries. fantastically good light. i wrote a little review on the bikeradar review.

pretty much what i think there0 -
Thanks, I'll definitely go for this. Unfortunately I have to wait for my new cycle to work voucher to come through before I can get it - as I was going to buy it as an accessory along with my new bike.
Is one definitely enough? I was vaguely thinking about buying two - one for helmet and one for bars. Is that just silly? I don't have any experience of night-riding so forgive me if I'm asking stupid questions.
That deal from Merlin was excellent, btw. You must have been chuffed.0 -

Yes one is enough unless you wanna go do some downhilling at night. Its certainly enough for most normal riders. With it being a flood light getting two of the same wouldn't be much use. If you were to get a spot for your head then that would be a good combo but i doubt it would be worth it really.
hell yeah i was chuffed0 -

I've had the Hope for over a year and used it daily. On the brightest setting, I get flashed by cars on the road. Quite often they are forced to slow down/stop. Mid brightness is better - it is easily bright enough to see by, even after a dazzling by oncoming cars.
The even spread of light allows it to be used on a wobbly bar bag - there is no strong beam distract you.
With Cat Eye Micro computer (wireless) there is occasional interferance (no reading), but if you position it carefully this can be avoided.
I had a cable problem at just under one year and Hope were great. They fixed it quickly and for no charge.
The two battery option is good because you always have a spare if you forget to charge it up. However, the connectors can be stiff. Another use for vaseline!0 -
Thanks, all this advice was really useful and i have now bought a Hope set (£145), so thanks very much.0

Just when I'd pretty much decided on which light to get, I go on the hope website and find these new lights...

And I believe they are now offering different battery options on the two led model also, according to an advert I saw in WMB.0 -
they've always had (i believe) a single battery, enduro (two separate batteries) and epic? (2 batteries combined as one)
just get the hope LED vision, preferably with two separate batteries if you can as its much more useful.0
