butterfly bolt - supplier ???????????
I'm trying to find a supplier of butterfly bolts (M6 size).
By that I mean a bolt with a butterfly head (like the wings of a wing nut welded to the head of the bolt), to enable easy gripping and operation by hand (ie no tools required).
I've tried all the usual websites I know of, including Stagonset, SJSC, RS Components and a variety of fastener suppliers, but have drawn a blank. Most people I've telephoned can only offer me a standard hex head or allen head bolt and a wing-nut to fit, but this is not what I'm seeking.
I have googled, and found the perfect item as a spare part for an Evolution power drill system, but Evolution are unwilling to supply (even for cash/cheque) as I only want a total of 4 bolts. I don't blame them, it's just unfortunate for me.
But I still would like to find four M6 butterfly bolts, if anyone has any idea of a supplier ?
Thanks.

Thank you both, but what you've suggested are nuts, not bolts.
What I'm looking for is something like this -

but size M6. (I presume this one I've pictured will be an imperial size, as it's for a Moggy Minor, but I've emailed them anyway to check.)0 -
Drum kits use wing bolts (or something very similar) - not sure if they'll be sufficiently up to the job for use on a bike though?
Presume you were looking for something like this:

'Wing bolts' are unusual when compared to wing nuts. If you really need to get one (or four) then it shouldn't be too difficult to sliver solder some wings onto a standard M6 bolt head. In fact if you have a small gas blow lamp some silver solder and flux it's very easy.

...the alternative to that being some M6 studding together with the wing nuts, and some combination of lock nuts, epoxy, thread crimping, welding to keep them in place (I'd probably choose epoxy unless you have heat requirements).0

Pop down to a local stainless steel/ sheetmetal fabricator and they will Tig weld the wings onto bolt s for you and shape them to suit. This way you can oversize them for ease of use..........all

Thanks all, for further suggestions. There's a drum shop about 5 minutes walk from where I work, so I'll try there next week. If no good will have to resort to the 'manufacturing' options. Thanks again.0

I'm afraid in that context 'Wing Bolts' are used to fix wings to model aeroplanes. They're usually nylon so that they break and limit damage in what we RC flyers euphemistically call 'an early arrival' or a 'heavy landing'. The spike nuts, sometimes called 'T' nuts are captive nuts fitted to the fuselage to receive the wing bolts. I have a drawer full.
Not what ICILCLE19 wants I'm afraid.
Model Fixings is a very good source for a wide variety of nuts and bolts etc, but I don't think Ian stocks the sort of bolt you need. Though he has on occasion found me a bolt that I couldn't source elsewhere for one of my planes.

Sorry,Icicle, senior moment there!
It's not a bolt you should be looking for, it's really a screw. In general, bolts don't have their thread all the way along.
Have a look here

Is this more in line with what you are looking for?0 -
Thanks all, really appreciate the help and advice. Gordoncp - thanks for the link to the page with the wing screws etc, they look like they'll fit the bill.
Cheers all !0
