SPD shoes - "cycling" brand?

Popped into my LBS yesterday, Cycleworld wessex, and was looking at shoes to go with the new Smartys that were a christmas present.
Assorted shoes to choose from, but there were some suitable looking "trainer" types with decent grip and a relatively stiff but not rigid sole. Seemed to be the thing for me I think (- any suggestions to the contrary gratefully accepted!) and they were well discounted down to £30.
They were branded as "cycling". Seemed to be the only thing on there. Usually I'm pretty concerned about brands I've never heard off. I've tried google, which was foolish as you can imagine - Results 1 - 10 of about 28,600! - so thought I'd try here to hear if anyone has got some/used some etc.
Cheers all, Jess.
