Ham or peanut butter?

There was an article in the paper that said the total area of land required to grow and feed pigs to make ham was much greater than that required to grow peanuts. So switching from ham to peanut butter in my sandwich will save the planet; but all other things being even, which is the best as part of the diet of a cyclist? What about cheese? Is a cheese sandwich better or worse than ham?

P.S. peanut butter and cucumber on homemade pumpkin seed bread today.

  • According to that Michael Van Straten chap, peanut butter is a superfood containing essential oils, fats and proteins and it can even help with weight loss.

Personnally I have a peanut butter and a ham sandwich for lunch.

My 4 year old loves those. He's still struggling to understand why I won't make him a chocolate spread and ham sandwich mind you....

mmmmmmm, those flapjacks do sound great.

What's your fave brand of peanut butter??. I used to like one that you can get in holland - I think it was calve. I've tried skippy as well - lovely. The stuff i've tried from tesco isn't that great.

Just make sure your peanut butter is organic without added salt, suger and other nasties. Don't go for the low fat stuff either thats full of stuff thats been buggered about with.

Organic peanut butter and whole grain bread sandwiches, washed down with a glass of milk, the snack of champions :D

Those peanut butter flapjacks do sound good though.

You have to watch out for the aflatoxins in the organic peanut butter though.

'Whole Earth' crunchy was the brand suggested by Cycling Weekly a couple of years ago. I love it.

Sold at both Tesco and Holland & Barrett.

Try find a 'South African shop' and try the 'Black Cat Peanut Butter' in crunchy or smooth. Delicious! Easy to spread and decidedly morish. :D
