Pedalforce frames

Hi folks,

I'm thinking seriously about joining in on a group buy for one of the Pedalforce frames from the US. I know earlier models were tested in C+, and vaguely remember someone posting here about importing one.

Anyone else considering this group buy or already imported one, etc ? I'd be grateful for advice/comments on the process, quality of the frame, etc - either good or bad.

cheers

Brian

I've just got a QS2 - wishing I'd known the new one was coming, as it will be both cheaper and lighter - almost temoted to join the group buy and sell the QS2 on! Frame seems good quality, though it's not been ridden much at this time of year. Slightly under claimed weight. Delivery was about a week - most of which spent in UK customs. Normal VAT and duty, but that still made it a bargain.

    Hi aracer,

Thanks for replying, it's nice to know someone else has been down this road.

Did you import via DHL or the USPS ? How much do we get stung for VAT/Duty ?

I wouldn't be too worried about your QS2 there's not that much difference, it's probably mainly styling details that have changed.

    thanks

Whatever was cheapest - I think USPS. Come to think of it, delivery might have been nearer 2 weeks than one. The total tax bill was about £80 IIRC (including the Parcelforce fee).

Cheers aracer, I was guessing around £100 extra for having the cheek to import something myself, so I won't be that far off.

Assuming the postal rates were the same, there's quite a difference between them, roughly £50 extra for DHL. The difference between one and two weeks isn't too bad when you've still got something to ride anyway.

    thanks again,

    Brian

HERE is my ZX3. The quality of the finish is very good. UK customs that are a bit slow. Frame came very well packaged. I wish I could comment on the ride quality, but I've only just finished building it up, and the weather stinks ATM :( .............itching to get out on it.

I considered getting one of the Pedal force frames for my build. But I managed to get a dedacciai nero corsa cheap enough. I don't doubt that getting a frame from the US is easy, but I'd just be a bit worried about the hassle if anything went wrong and I'd need to send it away.

It's just a shame they don't have distributers (that don't bump up the price too much) in this country.

Now that's a very nice bike, it looks fast just propped against the garage door !

And yep, I'd call £340 a bargain. I paid more that that for the Al frame I'm currently riding and that was in a "last years model" sale as well. I was hoping for USPS delivery myself, assuming I could get some insurance on it. DHL is probably much quicker but over $100 more expensive.

I'm convinced about the frame though. I've just had a response from Pedalforce themselves and so I've signed up. Just need another 12 people to sign up and I can start thinking about what bits to fit on it - I just need to "find" a decent pair of wheels that "I bought years ago love" somewhere in the garage

    Thanks for the comments folks....

    Hi bhm100,
Am thinking about one of the group buys too. Few of my clubmates are up for it. What one you thinking about?

RS2 2008 model. Delivery in April they say, just about right timing for me. If that link doesn't get you the group buy page, just click on the tab.

    Thanks...
Reynolds Alta Race, bought very cheaply from PX last year. Very nice rims but very average bearings, which I've changed. I think people had probs with the spokes too, but they've been fine for me...Reynolds call them solitudes now?

Yeah, that's the one. I like the red/black coloured one. Good deal. Got another couple weeks to decide whether to go for it or not.

  • Hi Grif,
I'm loving the bike, it looks like the road going version of my Orange patriot ( full susy mtb), just black with a bit of bare metal, no graphics, subtle, understated and just looks like it's gonna do the job.
I've been looking at a nude deda nero corsa from chain reaction, but having checked pedalforce's site and this forum I fancy the pedalforce zx3 2008, I was wondering how you got yours so cheap when they want $800 for the frame plus postage then some stinging from customs. Have you got the 2006 model and if so did you get it very recently, could be a bargain for me.

    Cheers

Its the 2008 model, I got it cheap ($480) because every now and then Pedal force do 'group buys'. HERE is there current one on a road frame. Click on 'group buy' and all will be revealed :) looks like a nice frame also.
  • Thanks Grif.
Shame I missed the last group buy, as far as looks go the zx does it for me, but I can't ignore how cheap the group buy could turn out for the Pinnarello sort of style frame, it would certainly mean my wife would deliver a less painful blow to the nuts when she finds out another bike is on its way.
