Hi All,
I'm planning a trip to Cuba in the spring, and currently checking out flights.
Was somewhat discombobulated to be told by Air France that the reason they don't take bikes on their Havana route is that Havana airport doesn't have facilities to handle outsize baggage. Cant get much information from other airlines websites or call centres,
so I wonder if anybody out there can shed some light, or if anybody has taken a bike to Havana recently?
Thanks

Have not been to Cuba but at least one cycling company (Cycleactive) run trips to Cuba regularly so there is clearly a way of getting bikes there!0

I flew to Cuba with Air France about 8 years ago - with two bikes. Maybe they've changed policy.
I have the Lonely Planet Cycling Cuba and also another cycle-tour guide to Cuba if you're interested... make me an offer! Both are in as-new condition. It's an uphill climb to the bottom0 -
Try http://www.martinair.com they take bikes. You have to get to Holland first of course.0

Thanks for your advice everybody.
I posted a query on lonely planet as well and got some replies from people who had taken bikes through Havana recently, so seems its just some weird Air France thing.
Think I'll go ahead and book wiht Virgin from Gatwick.0 -
I'm flying out to Havana, Cuba on 17th February for 2 weeks with Virgin for a family wedding. Unfortunately without the bike, although the hotel I am staying in has some for rental. What date are you looking to go?The more you spend - the faster you go - the less you see.0

take your track bike as there is a nice velodrome in Havana !0

You could hire a bike there instead. and save yourself all the hassle.A simple enquiry took me to this website..I would love to in June for the Santiago Carnevalejc0 -
i travelled with 4 other touring cyclists and our bikes from london with virgin and was all no hassle and virgin flight was great. Cuba is a great country to visit, however it is not a cheap as everyone thinks.0

Hi
Flew with bike in to Havana last summer with Virgin - no problems with them at all; nice and easy. Got Cab with Bike (in bag) to Central Havana and put bike together there.
Useful tip is that the tourist buses will happily take bike in luggage compartment. You'll pay a bit extra for this but it makes the bike/bus touring option very viable.
All the places I stayed were OK about me bringing my bike inside.
there's some pics here to wet your appetite
