maybe maybe not. if you are not happy take it somewhere else for a second opinion.
TBH it could be other things as well."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I`ve known people who can make a cassette, last 2000 miles and others that wear them out in a couple of months.
Cassette and chain wear is a lot dependent on riding conditions and even more so your maintenance routine.
If you ride a lot in wet and muddy conditions and never lube your chain expect to replace chains and cassette regularly.
Personally,I clean my bike after every muddy outing, including a thorough degrease and relube of all the drivetrain.Make sure you use a decent lube too designrd for the job,not WD 40.
If replacing the chain, get them to fit an SRAM which has the easily removable joining links.ThAt way you can take the chain off easily, dunk it in some degreaser and then relube it.
Also get yourself a Park tool chain checker. This tells you in good time, when you need to replace your chain, without it causing undue wear on the cassette, and if you catch it soon enough, only the chain will need replaced.2006 Giant XTC

i bought 3 hardrocks last year a pro for myself and 2 sports for the kids. the one for my boy had lots of problems like that, it turned out that the gear cables hadnt been set up properly causeing the chain to constantly skip. once sorted though it has been perfect since (after a lot of shouting in the shop). the other 2 had been faultless and 2 of them have seen a bit of abuse. maybe the rear mech has taken a knock?if your not sure take it for a second opinion it costs nothing to askonly when you stare death in the face do you feel most alive0

Re the cables: they do bed in from new, throwing the indexing out of kilter. It really pays to leatn how to adjust them.0

i'd say you need to clean and grease / oil thourghly and do some short clean road rides to se it it works it'self back to normal.0

check mesure 11inches of chain you should be at a rivet in 1 inch and 11 inch if not then rour chain has streched (STOP STOMPING IN CLIMBS) a fair bit of experience or a tool is need for a worn out chainstephen hall0
