Help with Minorva turbo trainer

Just bought a turbo trainer and after 1 hour its worn the tred to slick!
When I rang Minoura they said that there needed to be a 2mm gap between the roller and the tyre "and then push the foot pedal to compress the tyre by 3mm".
I cant get the tyre anywhere near the roller, its about 10mm away when adjusted fully!
There is a wheel adaptor plate, but thats for use on wheels between 24" and 26"
My tempest wheels are 25" including tyre. Not sure what is a standard road size wheel?
Any advise on the Minoura VFS turbo trainer would be appreciated.
