Recommend a seatpost?

I've got a Fizik Arione saddle, and I've heard that some seatposts don't fit well with the arione (namely the Campag seatposts, one of which I was planning on getting).

So can anyone recommend a decent carbon seatpost for ~£50 (maybe a bit more). It's for a Nero Corsa which needs a 31.6mm.

It's the last thing I need for a build!

Ooh...make sure you get a sxy one. I've got myself a Planet X Carbon seatpost off ebay that I'm hoping will arrive tomorrow. Wanted to make sure I got a real nice one as its a bit of a centrepiece to some extent isn't it. looks sweet in the pics so I'm hoping it'll look as good in the flesh :P

Don't know about the Arione clash with campag seatposts but I have the Fizik Aliante and it's with the excellent Record carbon seatpost. If it were me I would still get a campag post.

Why spend a fortune on something that is just a utility? I have one of these -

You could spend ten times as much and never even notice the difference.
  • I've got a Thompson Elite seatpost for sale (unused), though alloy not carbon for £50

    31.6mm, 350mm long
Recipe: shave legs sparingly, rub in embrocation and drizzle with freshly squeezed baby oil.

although that one is a 27.2mm - he probably has a valid point in what he says.

that said - i'd be keen to try a campag one - especially given your build - where have you heard it clashes with the arione? surely the rail size / spec is a standard no?

Hmm - I see - its just one report mind and on a record seatpost at that.

its a shame somewhere like wiggle don't stock the centaur one (they do have the chorus one at £61) as with their returns policy you could order, try and return for the cost of the P&P which might have been worthwhile.

Perhaps try and find a mail order place with a simliar policy or call and explain your concerns - they may let you return it if the post is unable to secure the saddle rails.

I have to say though - reading those reviews, I'd be considering a different saddle instead - sounds like the arione is a recipe for numb-nuts (literally!)

alternatively - you could "shim" it:

And open up your choice a little to include the 27mm posts

Off topic but regarding seatposts. I ordered an Alien post of ebay and was just in the car with my mother when I spied postie with said item walking up street. I stopped and took the long thin parcel off him.

    Mother " What's that"?

    Me " My new seatpost"

Mother "I wished I'd never asked"

A few disturbing minutes of conversation passed whilst I explained it was for my bike!

Aye I wish I'd read the reviews beforehand. Only starting reading them today, but the saddle had already come.

Ahh, you never know, the saddle may suit me. I'll probably put it on my commuting bike for a few weeks to see how I get on with it. Next time I'm going to get a Flite - I know they suit me.

I want the Cinelli carbon seatpost to match my Cinelli bars and stem, but it's over £80. Probably just get a Ritchey Seatpost - they seem decent enough quality.

with the carbon ones a friend of mine is scared of tightening it too much worried he'll get shrapnel up his butt... any chance of this happening?

I had to buy an emergency one from evans on the way home the other day and it feels much heavier than my last (it might be a mental thing) so I might just upgrade

Edit: having never really dealt with seat posts before is there a size/dummys guide?

  • I find the Arione super comfy and because of it's shape/size you can move around on it a fair bit and find a good position. As for seat post - try a Deda Magic Stick...works for me!
  • i have a Deda Black Magic Stick on one of my bikes as well ... low weight and reliable for not a huge ££

    Easton seatposts are good also.

You need to work out whether you want layback or not.
