What bits might I forget...

...when doing my build? I'm sure I'll be 99% finished and will have forgotten something essential :x
One of my concerns is about cable guide/tensioners. I'm building a Scott CR1. Do I just buy a pack of 2 cable guides and they screw into the little glued on bits on the down tube?

That's about it, don't forget the end caps for the cables either.0

On the cable guide issue.... I did a google image search for scott CR1 Ex Large images. In the 2 pics where the bike is decked out in Shimano there doesn't appear to be any tensioners on the down tube. On the bike equipped with campag (2nd row of results, blue bike for anyone who's looking) there is cable tensioners. Is it just a campag thing then? I'm running campag btw.0

You don't need one for the rear derailleur cable as the derailleur has one already. you will need one for the front which means that you will have to split the cable somewhere between the break lever and down tube fitting and fix a cable tension adjustment jobby to it and rejoin (badly explained sorry). I'm talking from a Shimano viewpoint so I don't know if it's different with the Italian stuff.Every winner has scars.0

My Nero Corsa came with them already on the downtube (on both sides for front and rear mechs), but my cheap halfords didn't - do you really need them though?0 -

Yeah my winter frame came with them also but my Cannondale didn't. I think they're good to have because the cables need to be taut for percise gear changing. Also helps later on when the cable stretches over time. You only need one for the front dr and they're only a few quid. Worth it I think but I'm really no expert.Every winner has scars.0 -
If you've got a soldering iron then you don't need end caps on the cables, just solder the ends instead, at least then you don't have to cut the ends off every time you take the cables out.0

those little donut things to prevent your cables rattling on the frame. Headtube protectors and chainstay protector. Poss. a 'dogfang' to stop your chaining missing the smaller ring. Cable guide on the bb shellM.Rushton0

Cheers mrushton....have to check if the cable guide is on the BB when I get home.
I'm still struggling on the barrel adjuster thing. My frame has just got a housing where the cable housing fits into so I don't think the adjusters screw into the frame. I think I just need an inline adjuster judging by a quick look at whats available. Would that be right for a campag setup? or do I need them at all?0 -
You don't need them at all. The rear mech can be tuned with it's own barrel adjuster and what initial adjustment the front mech needs is done by just unclamping the cable and pulling it through a bit more. I have downtube adjusters but never use them.0

Right. They're off the shopping list!0

I took all the "modern" bits from my old steel Raleigh and put them on my new Ribble winter trainer. The things I forgot were, front mech was the wrong band size, front brake allen fitting "pivot bolt" was too short for Carbon forks, so waiting for them both to arrive.
Been a long time since I had a new frame, 30 years!!!
StreakI'm not so twp as to not know I'm twp.
