Full sus at this price is generally to be avoided as its heavy, undamped, poor parts and pivots and will probably ride like a pig. However the Decathon Rockrider did well in recent test at 300 quid, but thats the only one. I would recommend a hardtail however.
As for size, well probably going to be an L or XL (20 inch plus) but sit on a few to get a feel, they all vary with tube lengths and angles.0 -
As a fellow 6'5er I usually go for a 21" bike as I find that a 23" is slightly too big with a worryingly small stand over clearance for offroad duties.
Away from inches, my current full sus (specialized) is an XL and I have to have the seat post fairly extended. Manufacturers can differ quite a lot between what's a L and what's a XL though.0 -
thank you.
what bike would you recomend? still full serpension ect, and as cheap as possiable.
or
what type of bike would you recomend for riding downhill and trails?0 -
Honestly, steer away from full sus at 300 quid. They are not worth it. The only one worth having is this:

And its not a DH bike, they dont exist at this price.0 -

Seconded. You'll not even get a decent second-hand one at that rate. With £300 you're definitely stuck in hardtail territory.0 -

Youre gonna struggle to get one that will cope with the rigours of full on DH. You can get hardcore hardtails at this price, but even those are thin on the ground. This is worth looking at, slightly over budget though:

Tough frame and wheelset, discs, damped fork, should hold up well to some tough riding.0 -

and aslo what type of bike is best of trails or all rounder0
-
Personally I'd get a GT Dhi, but thats 4000 quid ;-)
Carrera do a budget heavy duty bike called the Banshee which starts from 500, full suss. Decent DH rigs start from about 1200.
Best bike for generally trail riding is a hardtail with 4 or 5 inch front wheel travel, or if you have more budget, maybe a full susser. Check the What Bike thread.0 -
thanks for all your help i think i need to start saving0

If you're a beginner to mountain biking it might be best to learn on a reasonable priced hardtail first, you can get a basic hardcore hardtail for £450-700 (maybe even less) same will get you a decent trail bike.
You might be able to get some bargains around the £300 level at the moment too, just not full sus downhill rigs0 -

i have had a look but which one?
i want one were i can go and do trails with it and also use it for downhill0 -
What takes your fancy? Make a shortlist and go and try them!0
-
by the way is there any trails near preston or around that area0
-
Which out of these would you recommend for trails and the occasional downhill: Carrera Banshee or Decathlon Rockrider 6.30
-
Banshee for DH, rockrider for trails. Rockrider a lot lighter, Banshee heavier, longer travel and toufgher.0

-
As the Rockrider is not a DH bike, then the banshee.0

Nah, but if you put a post in the riding section I am sure someone will see!0
