Another forks question

Quick question. I'm looking at the Rockshox Revelation 426 Dual Air from Merlin (http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/?fn=product&productId=1095&categoryId=18).
It says on the ad:
"Ltd offer of the latest 426 dual air with poploc remote lockout
Revelation offers unrivaled stiffness to weight for standard QR 130mm forks.
Intended Application: All Mountain
Travel: 130mm, Travel Adjust: All Travel 115/130mm"
What does the "All Travel 115/130mm" mean considering it also says "Travel 130mm"? I've got a frame that will take 110 to 130mm travel forks but is recommended below the upper limit. Finally does the poploc remote allow full lockout for when I'm not in need of suspension?

Well the dual air RS forks are a set travel. So they will be set at 130mm, I think you can either get 115mm OR 130mm travel fork.
Your poploc thing allows you to lock the fork remotely from the bar. Note that the fork itself is set-up so that you have to use the remote pop-loc, you can't use the lock out on the top of the stanchion.
When its locked out it has a safety mechanism which means that there will be some give in the forks to allow the to move if you hit something hard enough, otherwise it would damage the forks internals.0 -
all travel means that the fork is adjustable internally, by using spacers.0
-
Any idea how hard this is to change. Ideally I'd drop down to the 115mm setting but if I'm going to need specialist tools to do this I'm not going to bother0
-
It requires a strip and service, and moving the spacers about. Doable at home, a bit messy - you will need circlip pliers.
Being a Dual air fork, you can add more negative pressure and suck the fork down a little.0 -
By the by if you're going to buy these from Merlin you might want to ask them whether they are OE or not 'cos if not you won't get a shock pump with them so you'll have to budget for that.
Online sellers don't always say - you have to ask. '08 forks at that price probably are OE.
Apologies if you already knew that.I hate it when people say David Beckham's stupid...its not like anyone ever says: 'Stephen Hawking - he's s**t at football.' Paul Calf0 -
Divvy! I meant if they ARE OE you won't get a shock pump with them :oops:I hate it when people say David Beckham's stupid...its not like anyone ever says: 'Stephen Hawking - he's s**t at football.' Paul Calf0

OE is like OEM in computer hardware terms? "Brown box" delivery without the extras sort of thing?0
-
Yes it does. I bought some Air-U-Turn Pikes from Wiggle and they came WITH the shock pump.
If you are thinking you might need to change the travel, I'd suggest getting travel adjust forks, if the air ones are too expensive, I'd consider coils?0 -
I won't need to change the travel right now but it's nice to have the option if you get what I mean0
-
If the U-turn option doesn't cost a great deal more, it sounds like that might be more suitable for you.
They're a doddle to change the travel and you can have it at small increments between 100 and 130mm.0 -
Not sure about you but 90 quid is fairly punchy BUT JE James have the 07 model for 270. Worth it?0
-
If you will be changing travel often , then very much worth it!0

alos regarding thelockout at this fork has a tuneable threshold you can adjust the level of lock from rigid to fairly compliant, an excellent feature. I have these dual air fixed travel 130mm forks and they are excellent.0
-
That reminds me, try and get the poploc adjust. This allows you to adjust the compression damper, as with a standard poploc its either locked, or minimal damping. The blue dial allows you to set it where you like, but still lock it at a lever push, but it unlocks to your previous setting.
Non poploc forks can all be adjusted from the leg top, and you have the full range of compression. The floodgate threshold is adjusted from the top regardless.0 -
I have a set of these from Merlin. They're OEM - no shock pump or bag.
I don't use the poploc on mine, seems like just another thing to catch my coin purse on when I go over the bars.
On a similar note, what's the advantage of dialling in less travel on a fork? I'm guessing it alters the geometry of the bike and this affects how it rides; is it worth the trouble?0 -
More travel isnt always better. As you say, it will alter the front end height. Most bikes have a travel sweet spot, and an adjustable fork allows you to find that, or alter it for varying conditions. Alos the spring rate is adjusted as you change the travel.0
