"They don't give you enough time when you have to pick the kids from ballet and tennis"

I'm not sure that taking over the streets like that is the best way to promote your/our cause and it seemed to simply have the opposit of the desired outcome of those really trying to improve things. I didn't realise that te police were actively handing out tickets in London. It was an eye opener for what will eventually come to Wales in due course. These things always do.
On the up side... There were some 'tallented' women though and that policeman almost looked embarrassed

Hmm...not surprised. London sounds fked as far as the police handing out tickets for everything is concerned. Big Brother is watching...in the Orwellian sense rather than the sht TV sense....0

Sure, we're on camera too much. take the cameras away and put police on the streets and I'd be happier. If you break the law then there's n defence other than to not break it.

I only saw about 5 minutes of it so can't really comment about most of it but I did see the bit where they blocked in the bloke in the 4x4. What's that all about? Just cos he drives a Range Rover he's the ememy of the world :? What a lot of cr*p. If he was in a clapped out old Ford that was chucking out twice as much CO2 would the reation have been the same? I doubt it.
As someone said earlier "a bunch of hippys probably doing far more harm for cycling than good.Beer, the reason my ambitions have not become my achievements0 -
If you are in a clapped out Ford it's because you're boracic, OTOH 4x4 owners are just trying to prove they ain't.0

I have a mate who has a Mitsubishi Pajero which is his only car, he uses this for off road trials and competitions.

I thought that the programme left every party looking rather stupid to be quite honest.
The drivers want the road all to themselves, the cyclists want the road, but the ability to break the rules as and when they see fit, and the pedestrians, well....they want to cross the road as well.
Until the infrastructure changes to allow non-competitive use of the road for all users, including decdicated cycle lanes (not just an orange or green strip at the side, but an actual fenced lane) this is just going to get worse and worse.
Yes some of it was amusing (the woman with the ballet and the clothes allowance), but seriously, the saddest thing was the poor old bugger who had to get a bus to cross the road!
Notice how the Belgian example was all respect and space for everyone.Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

I'm sure that unfortunately its all about limited space and numbers on the roads rather than any cultural/behavioural thing. If there wasn't so much traffic people wouldn't get so aggrevated and there would be a lot more room to get on with it. I'd like to see Naked Streets but I don't think it would work with so much traffic. What we need is a kick ars rail and bus network that is easier/cheaper/quicker to use than a car.0

You know, I think I agree with you that if the public transport system actually worked, less people would feel inclined to use their cars, thus freeing up more space for more public transport and all the lorries etc that need to deliver stuff to shops and cyclists and pedestrians and the remaining cars on the road
<pedantmode>You don't mean aggravated. It means make worse. You mean irritated.</pedantmode>I apologise immediately for this. It isn't my fault. I am a pedant. :roll:Whenever I see an adult on a bicycle, I believe in the future of the human race.

Belgium is brilliant for bike riding. Its population density is higher than the UK, too. It's the cultural attitude that is different. Not just towards bikes, but towards each other in general.
In saying that, it's pretty obvious that there is a big divide between Flanders and Wallonia, which may as well be separate countries.Jeff Jones

I think decent public transport is the key, but there is also a peculiar British attitude to the road. The guy in the Jeep, Andrew Burr? He clearly hasn’t had enough anger management sessions yet. I started off thinking what a complete Jeep driver, but actually began to feel sorry for him, he needs help or he’ll have a heart attack.
I live next to a school here in Switzerland, I don’t think there is a single child dropped off by car. From age 5 the children are given a large fluorescent orange sash and encouraged to walk to school on their own. A friend of ours received a letter from the head teacher asking her to stop walking her 6 year old to school, as it stifled the child’s independence. Try suggesting that to the lady with the parking fine.
As for the yobs surrounding the 4X4 outside Buckingham palace, do they really think that’s going to help? Class war is not going to regain the streets.
Having cycled over here for a few years now, I’d hate to cycle in London, or any UK town. There just seems to be so much more respect for all road users here, starting with the road planners. My biggest concern cycling in town is getting the wheels stuck in tram lines.
I felt so sorry for the guy who lost his wife, with the coaches stopping over the pedestrian crossing where she was killed. And the old boy trying to cross the road, if he was a rare newt, they'd have built him an underpass, but he's an old man, so he has to catch the bus, how sad.0 -

The same could apply to anyone in a decent car, or with a decent bike for that matter?
the way I see it 90% of 4x4's have never left the school route... they're designed for off roading not being a city runaround. it's snowballed from therePurveyor of sonic doom
