Anybody out there running these and got anything good or bad to say about them? I like the look of the new ones but one of my concerns is the stories I hear about tyres being a barsteward to get on or off all Campag wheels. I have a set of Fulcrum 5's which are made by Campag and the tyres are certainly a git to get on and off them.

I'm considering a pair too. There are a fair few reviews on roadbikereview.com which is always worth a squizz when considering a part. Otherwise, I think if you do a search there are a few mentions recently on this very forum. Hopefully you'll get a few replies though...I'll be watching too.
  • Positives:

*Very well made (unscientific but campag wheels have probably the best or just about the best reliability record of all wheels).
*Meaning they are very strong and need very little servicing
*Very good hubs ... smooth, fast and well sealed
    *Stiff
    *Look nice
    *Durable and high-peformance braking surface

    Negatives

*Not the most aero mid-section wheel in the world, but by no means the worst either
*Alu spokes are relatively costly to break, though on the plus side they are very strong

Weight is neither a positive or a negative really. It's ok for the price ... though note that typically I think they are more like 1600g than the claimed weight.

Handling in cross-winds is possibly a bit of a negative compared to something with the same rim depth but thinner spokes .. .but again, it's no big deal. They handle find for all conditions really.

    Hi dbg

I've just ordered a pair from shinybikes.com. They don't have nipple holes through the rims so no rim tape which hopefully will make tyre fitting a lot easier. I've never owned campagnolo wheels so have never experienced the problem but have read about it on here. I won't be able to road test them for a while as my new bike's on order and keeping it for spring. They should be here this week so I'll fit tyres and let you know. Cheapest I could find was £395 which includes wheel bags. There were a few sites selling them without bags which I thought was strange given that they're race wheels and come with them. GB cycles advertised them at £380 but didn't have any in stock.

Thanks simmo, I await your tyre fitting results with interest, my worst nightmare would be stuck halfway through a sportive puncturing all my spare tubes trying to re-fit the tyre. The Fulcrum (campag) Evo 5's I have are so bad I'd have to carry a bag of talc with me if I used em in a sportive! - they do have rim tape though, whereas the Eurus don't.

i have had the eurus wheels for about a year now, no problems getting tyres on or off, mind you i have also got protons, they are murder to get tyres on and off, eurus great wheel.
    its all about the bike!!
  • Had my Eurus since August and they have been fine, i think there are good climbing wheels and I've had no trouble changing tyres and I had plenty of practice as I had a puncture every time in the first 5 rides, I put this down to the tyres though which I have since changed.

this is good stuff - I have decided on Eurus for my summer bike

as a side point - what are shinybikes like to deal with? are they ok? I have never heard of them.

They have a decent price on the centaur compact carbon groupset with all the options I want, but am a little wary of ordering from them. the website doesn't tell much about them either...

    any views?

I've had no problems fitting or removing tyres from my Eurus wheels. I've tried both Conti and Michelin and one lever is enough. They roll well and I've not had any issues climbing although they could be a bit lighter. I use them for everything, club rides, holidays, sportivs etc and have only one issue with them: they do make the bike very twitchy in crosswinds. If it's windy I'll swap the front for something else and at 80 kilos I'm not exactly a lightweight.

How would they be for a heavier rider (92 kilos)?

Am I better going for handbuilt custom-made hoops?

I have been running a set of these for a couple of years. They have proved to be very reliable and reasonably comfortable. I would not say they are the fastest or the lightest wheel you can get. They are decent as a middle-of-the -road safe bet. I dread the days when I have to change the tyres - conti are really difficult to get on and off, Michelin Pro Race are just about OK.

I have had Eurus wheels for 2 years now and fully recommend them. I have had no problem with getting tyres on or off.

Excellent wheels for the money. There are about a dozen pairs in use amongst my buddies and no one has ever broken a spoke or had one go out of true over a period of a few years now - MK 1 or MK 2. Tyres are a bit of a struggle but easier than some of the cheaper Campag wheels which I have found to be a real challenge!

I've just had a reply to an email i sent to Ribble enquiring if they had the Eurus which were compatible with shimano cassette as they only advertise campagnolo on their website. It said that campagnolo no longer make wheels which are compatible with shimano. How come lots of others are advertising 2008 campag wheels in either campag or shimano options?

Whilst I really like the look of the Eurus I may now have to look at something else :(

I have had no trouble at all putting Conti GP 3000 / 4000 tyres onto Eurus wheels which I have run without any hitches for 18 months now in fact they are probably the easiest tyre / wheel combination for quick trouble free changes I have ever had.

Initially one of the wheels had a slight rattle inside but this was changed by Parkers without any fuss and no worries since.

I have just ordered some eurus from ribble. They are advertising them with "shimano 10 only" in silver so hope there aren't going to be any problems :?

Ah the ones I wanted were in black which was why I emailed them I did find it strange that campag weren't making shimano compatible wheels anymore.

As regards Shinybikes I have only ordered from them twice now. the first time was for a USE Joystick Maxx which took 5 weeks to arrive as they were in such demand. I emailed and phoned and left messages which were unanswered at first. I was then assured that I would have a light sent directly from the supplier. This didn't happen either. The second time was last week when I phoned to check they had a pair of Eurus in stock. Same guy (Fraser) said they had so I ordered them over the website. 2 days later i got an email saying they weren't in stock but would be dispatched on the day they got them in. Their prices appear good but if you have to wait every time you order I'd rather pay a little more to order from somewhere better known eg ribble, wiggle or parkers.

Of course I might just have been unlucky....

If you want Shimano compatable wheels, Fulcrum Racing 1 are the same as Eurus but with a more conventional spoke pattern on the rear.

well - mine arrived this morning - very good delivery time from Ribble - even though they came with an apology note for the delay (I only ordered them on monday night!)

anyway - they look the part and should do the business on my new s-works roubaix frame - here they are:

I don't know what it is about Silver wheels, but they just don't do anything for me. Perhaps black is my favourite colour.

If I ignore the Silver they are rather nice wheels.

each to their own I guess - i like the joined up look of silver - as opposed to having a black rim which then still has to have a machine silver braking surface.

I think they will look great on the bike

Knowing my maintenance routines, the braking surfaces will be black after a couple of days worth of use anyway!

Nice wheels gkerr4 - before you tyre em up, pop them on some scales I'd be curious to hear some 'real' weights

funnily enough - thats exactly what I did - having read about campag lying about weights left right and centre I was expecting the worst!

    Campag claim - Front 630g - Rear 860g (1490g / pair)

Using my kitchen scales I measured them at Front 640g - Rear 880g (1520g / pair)

which I didn't think was bad to be honest - I mean, I guess my scales could be out and they could be heavier (or lighter) but the honestly feel so damned light - especially the front - your mind can't get over how light it is when you pick it up - so I am happy with them..

a couple of pics now they are unpacked:

go get em = they are a bargain..

I went into ribble to look at them and was originally looking at the zonda's when I asked the difference between them the guy said

"basically the zonda is a £300 wheel that we sell for £260 - but the Eurus is a near £600 wheel that we sell for £400"

    "good point" i said

    Oh verrry verrry nice gkerr!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will need to try and find them in black........

As I got my new Planet X pro carbon from Halfords this afternoon :P

Funny thing is I briefly weighed the no name wheels on small digital scale, albeit with tyres on (Conti ultra sport) and the front was approx 30g heavier than my Paul Hewitt hand built mavic open pro ceramic with ultegra hub, but the rear was approx 30g lighter than my same rear Paul Hewitt. They've listed as Planet X Model C on their website. I think C will stand for "won't stay true for long"
