Hi chaps,

stupid question, but is there a standard list of hand signals for cyclists, I mean beyond the slowing down, turning left and right etc.

Meant to ask the guy that I saw doing it a few days ago, but when we were passing obsitcles in the road, he would point in the direction (to the side) and then pull his arm behind his back... saw him do it a few times as was behind him (group ride) for a while

Thanks

Will

Don't forget the industry recognised signal to indicate to a driver that they have driven too close to you. :)

Riding in close formation it's hard to spot hazards up front so most clubs use signals to warn following riders of hazards such as holes, gravel, parked cars or horse poop (imagine riding through that). It's generally the riders at the front who shout or signal the presence of a hazard to following riders, although the warnings are often repeated down the line. When riding solo a lot of regular group riders will still use these signals if they know a stranger has latched onto their wheel. Hey! we're all one big happy family.
