    ride them
    test them
they are both very good. if they both fit (and you will probably need a "large" ) its up to you. the specialized is a good tough frame but then again so is the GT its down to which fork they have (and I am not a fan of the specializeds fork ) and what spec they are. other than that its what one you want sorry to be of little help, but if they both fit.....
you cant really go wrong with either!
I never touched it! It was broke when I got here.

    cancel that about the large....
with a 32 inside leg you may be better with a medium my mate is a similar shape although smaller scale with a 5'6'' height and a 26'' inside leg. very short legs for the height. but its not just the leg length that is the problem its top tube length. you MUST try them

Gary Fisher Wahoo Disc would be a good bet - the v-brake equipped version beat the GT Avalanche in a recent test quite convincingly...

I ride a spesh rockhopper and am 6' and have a 32" inside leg. I was advised that I would proabably need a 19" frame but I actually preferred the 17" when I tried them. So I would say that you should definitely try them if poss.

RE the wahoo: in my opinion it won the WMB test because it was tested by seasoned riders, and not beginners who often have different ideals in a bike. To me it makes sense for the experienced rider who wants a lighter faster bike with quick handling, or the beginner/novice who are only venturing onto forest paths and dont need the extra weight of discs. A beginner wanting to hit the dirt may fare better with a more relaxed ride, discs for more stable stopping in all conditions, and a bit of damping in the fork. I disagree with WMB on the Dart1 - its a nasty fork, production varies immensly and it has no damping, like riding a pogo stick! Not being disc ready, and basic kit doesnt make it stand out value wise either.

    But as ever, test!

If you really cant try them I'd say get the GT in a medium size, I've got a 34" inside leg and thats the bike I had a few years back, loved it. Not sure the forks much of an issue at this price, ones got an RST Gila which from experiance I now know stands for Goddamn Its Laughably Awful.
